Horse Racing Tips: Four Selections to Consider on Sunday

Just the two meetings on Sunday, but there’s an eight-race card from Southwell on the Flat and a six-race card from Kelso over Jumps to sustain our interest.

We’ve scrutinised the form and come up with nap and next best selections at both meetings.

At the foot of the handicap, Cusack only just did enough to win a similar race over course and distance on his Tapeta debut last month, but is weighted to confirm that form with the second horse home, Masqool. Indeed, Masqool won over course and distance on New Year’s Day to give the form some substance so, with improvement likely, Cusack must have bright prospects of following up.

Interestingly, Madrinho is 3-6 under Hollie Doyle, including at Wolverhampton last month, off a 1lb lower mark. He ran below par on his last visit to Southwell, on his penultimate start, but still looks feasibly handicapped, so must have every chance of improving his already excellent record under the ‘Pocket Rocket’.

An uninspiring contest, but it is worth noting that Evita Du Mesnil has not run in this grade since winning, off a 1lb lower mark, at Perth in May. Daragh Bourke’s mare has done all her winning on soft or heavy going, so has underfoot conditions in her favour, and could prove best of a fairly ordinary lot.

Kelso: 2:40 Kelso Betting Ring Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle 2m

Elvis Mail hasn’t won for a while, but is consequently well handicapped and only weakened on the run-in when fourth in a better race than this, off a 1lb higher mark, at Aintree last month. He clearly retains hurdling ability and, with underfoot conditions to suit, should not be underestimated.
