ITV Racing Tips for a Lucky 15 at Newbury on Saturday 10th February
1:30 Newbury
The first race on ITV is a handicap hurdle at Newbury over 3 miles.
It’s KYNTARA (7/2) for me. He has been in rude form this season and arguably should have won all three of his starts. He won the first two comfortably at Lingfield and again at Aintree before finishing second last time out at Warwick. He looked in control of that contest before stumbling after the last and that definitely cost him the race in my book. He’s a proper grinder from the front and on this soft ground I think that’s exactly what you need. He stays all day, jumps well and gets on well with regular jockey Charlie Deutsch.
2:05 Newbury
The 2:05 from Newbury is up next, the Grade 2 Denman Chase over just shy of 3m.
I’ll take a chance here on PROTEKTORAT (5/2) NB on this ground. He shown a lot of enthusiasm last time out finishing a good second behind L’Homme Presse at Lingfield with the pair pulling way clear. He enjoys soft ground as we seen when he won a Grade 1 Betfair Chase easily last year. Despite being frustrating at times, he has won 5 of his 15 career chase starts and that’s a decent record given the races he’s ran in. He won’t be stopping and he gets ideal conditions. That’s not quite the case for Shishkin who still has to prove he can stay this trip on ground that’s certainly not his optimum.
2:40 Newbury
It’s back to Newbury for the 2:40 for more Grade 2 action, the Game Spirit Chase over the extended 2m.
It’s EDWARDSTONE (13/8) NAP for me in this. He just ran too keen last time over 2m4f at Kempton and I think back down to 2 miles on soft ground looks ideal for him. Prior to the disappointment last time out, he chased Jonbon home twice including when not beaten far in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek only two starts ago. He drops in class to Grade 2 level here and he’ll get a lovely pace to aim at with Editeur De Gite and Calico likely to go fast from the start. He’s obviously not as good as he was but I think he’s still capable of landing a race of this nature.
3:15 Newbury
The 3:15 from Newbury is the competitive Betfair Hurdle over the extended 2 miles.
It’s ALTOBELLI (8/1) EW in here for me. He was last seen finishing third in a similar contest in the Betfair Exchange Trophy handicap beaten just over a length by Luccia. He kept on well there and the softer ground he’ll get on here will certainly suit him a lot more. He has proven form on soft ground and he’s won over 2m4f which I like given this is going to be a stamina test even over 2m. He’s off the same mark of 132 he ran off last time and I’d be surprised if he wasn’t hitting the frame in this at least.
