Sandown Betting Tips and Predictions on Saturday 7th December
1:15 Sandown
The first race live from Sandown is the 1:15, a handicap hurdle over just shy of the 3m trip. It is Pertemps Final qualifier.
It is HENRI THE SECOND (5/1) I like in this. A solid novice hurdler last season, his best performance came here at Sandown when winning at Grade 2 level. He returned to action this season with a solid effort finishing a good 4th in a handicap again here at Sandown. Things didn’t go to plan there and he was denied a clear run which may have proved costly. However, he’ll have improved for it and this 3m trip could well squeeze out further improvement.
1:50 Sandown
Next up is the Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices Chase over 2 miles.
I expect L’EAU DU SUD (Evens) to take a fair bit of whacking here. He was very impressive on chase debut at Stratford before following up again at Cheltenham where again he bolted up and jumped like a veteran. That was at Grade 2 level and this unexposed chaser who was a progressive hurdler last season looks set to be the top 2 miler chaser in England. There’s plenty of pace on in here which will give him a lovely toe into this contest. He can utilise his speed late on to pick off the Irish rivals in the home straight.
2:25 Sandown
The 2:25 from Sandown is a 2m handicap hurdle.
It is the unexposed WILLMOUNT (11/4) NB I fancy here. A promising sort last season, he was highly thought of after bolting up at Newbury on his hurdles debut after switching to Seven Barrows. Prior to that l run, he had looked a talented sort in winning two decent bumpers in 2023. He was last seen in the Challow Hurdle where he was well fancied but things just didn’t go to plan. That race ended up being a real stamina test and he definitely didn’t run his race on very soft ground. Back to 2 miles here and freshened up since, a mark of 130 looks ideal.
3:00 Sandown
The feature comes up next, the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase over 2 miles.
Jonbon will take a fair bit of beating but I think EDWARDSTONE (9/1) EW can chase him home again at the least. His career best performance came in this race in 2022 and he was runner-up in it last season so we know this course and distance is his optimum. He finished behind Jonbon on his seasonal reappearance at Cheltenham but he wasn’t beaten far and he’ll come on a ton for that effort. Alan King remains in decent form and this proven Group 1 performer Edwardstone can hit the frame at least.
3:35 Sandown
The final race is the competitive London National Handicap Chase over the extended 3m4f trip.
I really like MONTGOMERY (4/1) NAP in this for the red hot duo of Charlie Deutsch and Venetia Williams. A progressive chaser last season winning three of his five starts, I think he can kick on again this season. He excels on soft ground and looks sure to relish this type of stamina test. Venetia can get them ready first time up as we’ve seen with plenty already this season and I think she’ll have Montgomery ready for this given the fact it’s a decent pot. I have no doubt he’s a better horse than a mark of 127 and he can improve past his rivals and land this.
