ITV Racing Tips for Friday 17th January from Windsor and Market Rasen
1:25 Market Rasen
The first race from Market Rasen is a Veterans Handicap Chase over an extended 2m5f.
I like NOCTE VOLATUS (9/2) in here for the Tom Lacey yard. He’s started the season in arguably career best form. He won his first two starts in competitive races before chasing home December Gold Cup winner Gemirande at Ascot last time out. Back in veteran company, he looks to be the one to side with. I’m surprised he’s not favourite.
1:50 Windsor
The first of four live races from Windsor starts at 1:50. The opener is the Grade 2 Lightning Novices Chase over 2m.
I think this track will suit CALDWELL POTTER (6/5) well and if he gets an easy time of it from the front, I think he’ll win this. He made a pleasing chase debut for Ditcheat at Carlisle before running behind Jango Baie at Cheltenham. He jumped well there and it wasn’t a bad a run at all. The stable were under a cloud and I think they are just slowly bringing this lad along. This is a weaker race and I think he can return to winning ways here.
2:25 Windsor
It’s back to Windsor for the 2:25, a mares handicap chase over 2m4f.
The selection is PARTY VIBES (10/3). The Henry Daly charge was a gutsy winner last time out at Exeter where she displayed a willing attitude to get back up after being headed over 2m1f. That came after an encouraging chase debut when finishing third behind two decent sorts. This step-up in trip looks to be a good move to me. The 7 year-old always looks like she’d make a better chaser and I think she is better than her current mark. The yard remain in rude form and she looks sure to go close here.
2:35 Market Rasen
The 2:35 is the Veterans Handicap Chase final for the stayers over 3 miles.
It is ELDORADO ALLEN (4/1) I like. The bold jumping grey looks to have been aimed at this final and he’ll certainly appreciate going back up in trip. Prior to this, he’s ran two decent races over the intermediate trip finishing second before a fine third at Cheltenham behind Copperhead. He comes into this relatively fresh and this mark is his lowest mark for 4 years. He looks sure to make a bold bid.
3:00 Windsor
Next up from Windsor is a handicap hurdle over the 2m4f trip.
I fancy BLUEKING D’OROUX (5/2) NAP. I think this trip suits him well. He ran a cracker in the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot when we last seen him I thought. He was second as they jumped two from home and his stamina just gave in late on. He was only beaten just over 3 lengths so it was still a huge effort. He’ll have no stamina concerns here and Harry Cobden will likely be allowed to set his own fractions from the front. As a result, I can’t see him being passed and I’m expecting him to win.
3:10 Market Rasen
The final race from Market Rasen is a mares bumper over an extended 2 mile trip.
It is CHARISMA CAT (5/1) for me here. A winner of both career starts, I was impressed with her last time out when winning in decisive fashion at Warwick. She travelled strongly there and was ridden clear inside the final furlong. She’s open to significant improvement still and I favour her at the prices. Dream Shadow looks a useful sort too but the stable form of Fergal O’Brien is a concern as there has been murmurs of a yard bug.
3:35 Windsor
The final race is a competitive 2m handicap hurdle.
It is HANSARD (7/1) EW for me. A strong travelling sort who is well suited by having a strong gallop to aim at and he should get that today. He was eyecatching on seasonal return at Kempton where he travelled powerfully into this race and just looked to take a blow late on. With improvement to come and conditions to suit, I like his chances. The stable have a good record in these big handicap hurdles and they know how to target one at a decent pot. I suspect they’ve had this race in mind for the selection.
