ITV Racing Tips for Friday: The 6 Best Bets from Newmarket and York
1:50 Newmarket
The first race on Friday’s ITV coverage is the Rosemary Stakes, a listed contest for the fillies and mares over the 1m trip.
My selection here is DUBAI LOVE (13/2). Dubai Love spend the earlier part of the season out in Meydan finishing third and fourth in two Group 2 races. He’s had a nice break since and the fact he’s had a wind operation suggests he’s had a few issues. However, I’m hoping that wind surgery will have sorted out any niggling issues he may have been suffering with and it could arguably bring out further improvement. This is a drop in class and if the market vibes are positive with Oisin Murphy jocked up, I expect a bold bid.
2:05 York
We head to York for the first of two races at 2:05. It is a trappy 6f handicap race.
The one I like here is CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD (6/1). He ran his best race of the season last time out at Doncaster finishing third in a decent enough handicap not beaten far at all. He’s only up a 1lb for that effort and I can see him going very close again in what looks a similar contest. The strong pace will suit.
2:25 Newmarket
The 2:25 from Newmarket is next up and it is the Princess Royal Stakes, a Group 3 race over 1m4f, again for the fillies and mares.
My selection is ALBAFLORA NAP (Non-Runner) . She proved last time out finishing a good second behind Snowfall that she doesn’t necessarily need cut to be at her best. That effort last time out was in Group 1 company and she now drops back to Group 3 level and I think she’ll prove difficult to beat. I don’t think this is the strongest of renewals and if she’s run to the same level as she ran too last time, I think that’ll be enough to take this. Rossa Ryan takes the ride which I believe is a huge positive.
2:40 York
Another really tricky handicap is next up at York, this time over the 7f distance.
The one I’ve landed on is SILVER SAMURAI EW (10/1). He won well at Doncaster back in June off a mark off 83 where he looked much better than an 83 horse. His last three efforts haven’t been near that level but the smaller field size won’t have suit him there. I think he’ll appreciate this deeper field and the strong pace will suit him as he likes to sit off the pace. I think he’ll be doing all his best work at the end of the race and hopefully he can run into the frame at a nice price at the very least. Only 3lb higher today than he was for the Doncaster victory.
3:00 Newmarket
The Rockfel Stakes is next up, a Group 2 contest for the 2 year-old fillies over 7f.
The one I like in this is GIRL ON FILM NB (5/1). She was really impressive on her racecourse debut last time out at Kempton where she won going away at the line and she looked as if she really learnt on the job. She’s entitled to improve for that effort and the market support behind her on debut suggests her homework is strong too. The fact Beckett is pitching her into a Group 2 on just her second start backs that up and Beckett has a strong reputation when it comes to training decent fillies. Hopefully he has another one here. Frankie takes the reigns.
3:35 Newmarket
The final race is the Joel Stakes, a Group 2 race over the mile distance in which Godolphin hold a strong hand in.
I expect MASTER OF THE SEAS (5/4) to be tough to beat here. He was an unlucky second in the 2000 Guineas behind Poetic Flare which has obviously boosted that form throughout this campaign. He’s had a setback which obviously isn’t ideal but if he returns anywhere near that Guineas form he’ll win this. Benbatl is 7 now and couldn’t win a similar race last time out and the other rivals will have to really step up to beat the favourite if he’s on song.
