ITV Racing Tips for Grand National Day 2023 at Aintree

ITV Racing will be bringing us live action from Aintree’s Grand National meeting on Saturday 15th April and Henry has been through the five ITV live races and picked his betting tip for each.

The action gets underway at 2.25pm on ITV1 and the big race of the day, week, month and year is the Grand National at 5.15pm.

2:25 Aintree

The 2:25 race from Aintree is a handicap hurdle over the extended 3 mile trip. A tricky opener for punters on ITV.

I think PARTY BUSINESS (10/1 with William Hill) EW will go well in this for the Ian Williams yard. He won this contest last year and I’m sure this has been his number one target this season. A lot of his rivals are coming here off the back of hard races at Cheltenham with this race arguably an afterthought. Party Business has only ran twice this season and they will have been to put him spot on for this. Off a 5lb higher mark than last year I think he has to go close again under ideal conditions.

3:00 Aintree 

The 3:00 contest looks a decent renewal of the Grade 1 Mersey Novices Hurdle over the intermediate 2m4f distance.

I like IRISH POINT (7/1 with Ladbrokes) in this. He skipped Cheltenham and went to Naas instead that week and landed a Grade 3 from the front. He brings real strong Grade 1 novice hurdle form to the table finishing behind all the right horses such as Marine Nationale. His sole effort over this trip was a fine effort finishing a good second in the Grade 1 Lawlor of Naas back in January so 2m4f holds no fears. This trip round a sharp track like Aintree looks perfect to be fair because he has shown he has pace having won at 2m but he has obviously proved he has no problem staying the trip.

3:35 Aintree

The 3:35 race is a fantastic renewal of the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle for the staying hurdlers over the extended 3 miles.

I think MARIES ROCK (4/1 with BetVictor) NAP will win this. She was disappointing in the Mares Hurdle but that was a very slowly run race and nothing got into it from behind. She was being trained with 3 miles in mind for Cheltenham and the speed test there wouldn’t have been ideal. Her victory in the Relkeel Hurdle prior to that was really impressive powering clear of Dashel Drasher. I think this trip will be perfect for her round Aintree.

4:15 Aintree

The 4:15 contest is another tricky handicap chase for punters to get stuck into over 3m1f.

I like BEAUPORT (7/1 with Betfred) EW in this race. He ran very well for a long way at Cheltenham in the Kim Muir before fading late on. They went hard in front that day and that was an extreme test over 3m2f. This slight drop in trip on a sharper track will suit better. He is still unexposed as a chaser and he’s shown glimpses this season that he could be better than a handicapper if things drop right for him. His chase debut victory was really good at Carlisle and that effort last time out at Cheltenham was certainly a step back in the right direction. He’s a prominent racer which is ideal for a race of this nature and in a wide open race, he has a lot going for him.

5:15 Aintree 

The big one comes up at 5:15, the Grand National Handicap Chase over the marathon 4m2f and half a furlong.

The one I like is AINT THAT A SHAME (8/1 with bet365) EW for the dream duo of Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. He reminds me a lot of the stables winner Minella Times. An improving chaser who’s always looked like he’d relish a long distance test but doesn’t lack for speed. You need that combination to win a Grand National these days. He’s a really good jumper who likes to race prominently and he comes into this race in decent form after a good win last time out at Gowran Park. He has a lovely racing weight of 10’5 for this and the ground won’t be a problem.
