ITV Racing Tips for Ladies Day at Aintree (Friday 14th April)
ITV Racing will be bringing us live action from Aintree’s Grand National meeting this week, starting with 5 races on Thursday 13th April.
The action gets underway at 2.20pm on ITV1 but Henry has also previewed the opening race of the day as well at 1.45pm.
See all our ITV Racing tips for day 2 of Aintree below and the current odds for each selection.
1:45 Aintree
The opener on Day 2 is the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices Chase over 3m1f.
I like GERRI COLOMBE (10/11 with William Hill) here. I don’t think this is the deepest renewal and his second placed effort last time out in the Brown Advisory going down by a short head. I think he’ll have learn plenty from that and I think he may just outstay chief rival Bronn. Gerri Colombe lost a lot of his ground at Cheltenham coming down the hill which he won’t have to worry about here at the flat track of Aintree. Any rain that falls will certainly be in his favour but he has a won a Grade 1 over 2m4f at Sandown so I don’t think the sharper test would stop him from winning anyway.

2:20 Aintree
The first race on ITV from Aintree is a trappy handicap hurdle.
I’ve landed on PULL AGAIN GREEN (20/1 with Betfred) EW here. I think he’s been crying out for a big handicap hurdle with plenty of place on up front and he’ll certainly get that today. He ran well after a break and a wind operation last time out at Kempton where he travelled into the race well before fading to 5th late on. I think he’ll come on for that run and he sneaks into this race near the bottom of the handicap. Dropped a further 2lb for that run last time out, I think he has a cracking chance.
Bet on Aintree today with Betfred’s £40 welcome offer.
2:55 Aintree
The 2:55 race from Aintree is the Grade 1 Poundland Top Novices Hurdle over an extended 2 miles. It is a wide-open renewal.
I’d be giving LUCCIA (4/1 with bet365) a second chance to fulfil her promise prior to Cheltenham here. Truth be told, she didn’t run too badly at Cheltenham finishing 4th but I just don’t think we seen the real Luccia that day. She travelled keen throughout the race and arguably just got outstayed by the three that finished in front of her that day. She’ll have learnt a lot from that given her previous races have been small fields that she’d been allowed to dominate. We’ve seen Seven Barrows have disappointment in that race with Epatante in recent years and she went onto to win two Champion hurdles. Luccia gets weight off her rivals here and I think she can resume improvement and land this Grade 1. 50/1 for the Champion Hurdle isn’t too shabby either.

3:30 Aintree
The feature on Day 2 is the Grade 1 Marsh Chase, known to many of us as the Melling Chase over 2m4f.
I’d chance MILLERS BANK (10/1 with bet365) NB in this on his second run after a wind-operation. He put up a career best at this meeting last season when bolting up in the Grade 1 Manifesto Novices Chase so returning here will be no harm at all. This season has been disappointing but I think this race will be run to suit. He’s a strong stayer at the trip and Pic D’Orhy and French Dynamite are likely to go on and make this a decent test. Fakir D’Oudaries has questions to answer and is short enough. The forecast good to soft looks ideal for Millers Bank.

4:05 Aintree
The professional jockeys get their chance over the National fences in the Topham Chase over 2m5f.
I’d chance COOPERS CROSS (20/1 with 10Bet) EW in this. A good winner of the competitive handicap that is the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster two starts back, that race has since worked out well. You can draw a line through his run back at Doncaster last time out as he burst a blood vessel. He sneaks in this race near the bottom of the weights running off 10’4 and he’s a good jumper that should enjoy this challenge.

4:40 Aintree
The last race on ITV is another Grade 1 contest, this time for the staying novice hurdles. It is the Sefton Novices Hurdle over an extended 3 miles.
The one I like here is MAXIMILIAN (11/2 with Betfred) NAP. He skipped Cheltenham with this race in mind and his win last time out at Doncaster has obviously worked out well with the second Stay Away Fay going on to win the Potato race at Cheltenham. Running over a 3m trip at Cheltenham before coming here four weeks later has to be a concern for the favourite. I’d much prefer the fresh angle in a race of this nature. I don’t think Maximilian has finished improving yet and the Donald McCain stable will be desperate for an Aintree winner I’m sure.
