ITV Racing Tips for Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Day 2021

The biggest flat horse race in Europe takes place in Paris this weekend and ITV are covering the race along with three others on Arc day.

1:15 Longchamp

The opener on Arc day is the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac, a Group 1 for the 2 year-old fillies over the mile trip.

My selection here is ACER ALLEY EW (12/1). She has improved with each of her three career runs to date including when winning well here at Longchamp last time out in gutsy fashion. She gave the impression that day that this step up in trip would definitely bring out further improvement. Trainer F-H Graffard is one of the best from over in France and his horse has to be respected here.

1:50 Longchamp 

The 1:50 race is the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, a Group 1 for the 2 year-olds over the 7f trip.

The one I like here is ANGEL BLEU NB (13/2). A tough hardy sort who will relish the soft ground here today at Longchamp. A good winner last time out in Group 2 company at Goodwood on soft ground, I’m confident he can transfer that form to Group 1 company with Frankie Dettori booked for the ride.

2:25 Longchamp

The 2:25 race from Longchamp is an Arabian Group 1 contest over 1m2f and it’s a tricky affair to try and solve.

The one I’ve landed on is LADY PRINCESS (4/1). A good winner last time out at Goodwood when winning a Group 1 by over 3l. That was back in July of this year and he’s been given a nice break to freshen himself up for what is likely to have been the number 1 target. Oisin Murphy is a great jockey booking.

3:05 Longchamp

The feature comes up at 3:05 and it is a fantastic renewal of the Qatar Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe. A Group 1 over 1m4f that is arguably the biggest race on the European flat calendar.

Derby winner Adayar heads the market for Godolphin. He backed up his Derby winner with victory in the King George where he had Mishriff behind. That form has obviously been franked since. He handles soft ground but I think he’d prefer a sounder surface and his preparation hasn’t been perfect. Hurricane Lane is another for Godolphin and his into defeat this season was behind Adayar in the Derby. He’s since won an Irish Derby and a St Leger and comes into this race firing. His proven stamina over further could bode him well with the soft ground likely to test the stamina of his rivals.

However, I really like TARNAWA NAP (7/2) here. She has had the perfect preparation, she has the perfect draw in stall 3 and the ground has come for her as she relishes the soft ground. She’s only had two runs this season and she’s looked as good as ever. This has been her number one target whilst her rivals may have already had theirs. I expect a bold bid.
