ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 24th September from Haydock, Newmarket & the Curragh

Saturday’s ITV Racing includes action from England and Ireland and the Cambridgeshire is the big race of the day in the UK, as a big field goes to post for one of the biggest betting races of the year.
There is also Group 1 action from Newmarket and a Group 2 from the Curragh in Ireland.
Once again we have a new sign-up offer to get stuck into this weekend and this time around it comes from The Pools where you’ll get £20 in free bets when you sign-up and bet £10 on today’s racing.
1:35 Curragh
The 1:35 race from Curragh opens proceedings on ITV and it is the Beresford Stakes, a Group 2 for 2 year-olds over the mile.
Not the strongest of opinions but I think ADELAIDE RIVER (7/4) is the best of this lot. A decent winner on debut at Dundalk, he then went to Longchamp and was an unlucky second going down a neck at Group 3 level. He’ll continue to improve and he’s a worthy favourite.
1:50 Newmarket
The first race from Newmarket on ITV is the Group 2 Royal Lodge over 6f.
Again, not the strongest betting race of the day, FLYING HONOURS (4/9) brings the best form, brings the most potential to continue his progression and is the best of these on breeding. Therefore, the Goldolphin string can land another decent 2 year-old race this season.
2:05 Haydock
Our first race from Haydock comes up at 2:05 and it is the Old Boston Handicap over just shy of the mile.
I’ll chance WANEES (7/1) EW here. If you ignore her last run on ground quicker than ideal at Goodwood last time out, he has to be hugely overpriced. He completed a hat-trick on his free runs between September last year and April this year. He ran a decent race in the competitive Sandringham Handicap finishing a close 6th at Royal Ascot prior to the run at Goodwood last time out. He will appreciate this return to a softer surface and the break will hopefully have done him good.
2:25 Newmarket
The 2:25 race is the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes for the 2 year-old fillies again over the 6f trip.
It’s MEDITATE (9/4) NAP for me here. The hardy filly who won her first four career starts before finishing second to Tahiyra last time out at Group 1 level. She’ll sit handy and Moore will try and grab the rail. She’ll be staying on strongly over this 6f trip and I expect her to be away and gone before Trilium makes her run from off the pace.
2:40 Haydock
The 2:40 race is a wide open handicap over the minimum 5f trip.
I’ll stick with COUNT D’ORSAY (6/1) EW here. He gets his ideal conditions here with 5f on a soft surface being exactly what he wants. We put him up last time out where he finished third in a similar competitive sprint at Doncaster. I think he can run another big race again here and I’d expect him to hit the frame at least. This race may be slightly weaker than that Doncaster contest too.
3:00 Newmarket
The Group 1 action for 2 year-olds continues, this times it’s the turn of the colts and geldings as we have the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes again over 6f.
It’s MISCHIEF MAGIC (3/1) NB for me at the prices. He improved for his debut effort at Goodwood where he finished third to win his next three starts easily showing a strong turn of foot. He was really impressive at Kempton last time out powering clear to win going away. The second that day has boosted the form with another good run at Ayr and i don’t think there’s much between the front three, therefore he appeals the most at the prices.
3:20 Curragh
The 3:20 from Curragh is a trappy 7f contest for 2 year-olds.
It’s OVIEDO (6/1) EW for me here. He was a really impressive debut winner at Doncaster over this trip on debut, travelling very well and quickening up like a really good horse. He then stepped up to Group 3 level on just his second start, finishing third in the Acomb at York. He was only just over 3L behind Chaldrean in that and he looks one of the best 2 year-olds this season. Kevin Stort comes over for the ride and I think he has the form and the ability to go close here.
3:40 Newmarket
The 3:40 is the competitive Cambridgeshire Handicap over 1m1f.
I think you want to be drawn high based on previous renewals and the pace appears high. The one for me is LUCANDER (20/1) EW. Ralph Beckett reaches for first-time blinkers on him and they often improve for the fitting of them. He’s drawn in stall 27 which is ideal and I like the booking of Rossa Ryan. He’s proven over slightly further which is important as they’ll go fast from the get-go over this trip. A mark of 98 is well within his reach in my opinion.
