ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 27th May from Goodwood, Haydock, York & the Curragh
The big race on ITV this weekend is the Irish 2000 Guineas at 3.40pm but before that there is good racing from York, Haydock and Goodwood on what is set to be a glorious Saturday.
Henry has been through all the live ITV races and previewed each one as well as picking out his selection for the race. See the previews below and th ebest Saturday bets to place.

1:30 Goodwood
The first of two races from Goodwood comes up at 1:30 and it is the listed class Festival Stakes over 1m2f.
The one for me here is FRANCESCO CLEMENTE (15/8). A winner on all three career starts, two last season as a 2 year-old winning a decent enough maiden at HQ before following up at Sandown. He returned to action at Newmarket stepped up to this 1m2f trip for the first time and he appeared to relish it. He won easy by 9L and he can defy a further hike in the weights before moving into Group company.
1:50 Haydock
Next up at 1:50 is another 7 runner handicap, this time it’s one for the stayers over the 2m trip.
I like LAW OF THE SEA (11/4) here for the Ian Williams stable. The stable are in decent form at the moment and I personally think Law Of The Sea should have won the Chester Cup last time out. Jockey Franny Norton would love to ride that race again in my opinion. He’s only up a pound for finishing 4th in that competitive handicap and I think compensation may well beckon in this weaker handicap. William Buick takes over which is a definite positive.
2:05 Goodwood
The second race from Goodwood comes up at 2:05 and it is a trappy 7f handicap.
The one I like here is YACOWLEF (6/1) EW. He has a good record here at Goodwood finishing third at 33/1 back in July 2022 before going two better to win here in October. He’s shown improved form again this season finishing a staying on second on his seasonal return at Newmarket before going one better and winning last time out back there again. The Cole stable remain in rude form and the combination of course form and recent form brings Yacowlef firmly into calculations here.
2:25 Haydock
The 2:25 from Haydock is the Silver Bowl handicap over the mile.
I think COVEY (3/1) NB looks like a future Group performer and he may just outclass this lot off an opening mark of 90. Second on debut beaten a neck by Zoology who ran respectable at Group 2 level already this season finishing a good fourth behind Isaac Shelby. Covey since followed up at Newmarket and then at Newcastle last time out winning in a canter. This is obviously a considerable step up from that but he’s open to much more improvement and if he is a future Group performer, he ought to be winning this off 90.
2:40 York
We head to York next for the 2:40 and it’s another decent handicap, this time over the fast York 5f trip.
It’s BEDFORD FLYER (13/2) NAP for me here. He made a really encouraging start for Michael Appleby here last week finishing a good third in a similar competitive sprint. Korker was second there but he cannot be trusted. Bedford Flyer loves this course and distance and on quick ground, off the same mark of 97 as he ran off last time out, I think he’ll go close with further improvement expected on his second start out for Appleby.
3:00 Haydock
It’s Group 2 action at Haydock with the Sandy Lanes Stakes coming up at 3:00, a 6f contest for 3 year-olds.
I’d be happy to take Little Big Bear on here and it’s COLD CASE (5/1) for me. He beat Bradsell at Ascot on his seasonal reappearance at the start of the month and the money that came from Bradsell suggests he was certainly ready to run his race. Cold Case was himself a really good 2 year-old and he’s already proven he’s wintered well with that win last time out. I’m surprised he’s bigger than Bradsell as he’s open to further improvement himself. The stable are in fine form and he’ll do for me today at the prices.
3:15 York
The 3:15 from York is the Bronte Cup Fillies Stakes, a Group 3 race over 1m6f.
I’d chance SEA FLAWLESS (6/1) EW here. The favourite Mimikyu is hit and miss and she can’t be backed at the current price. Sea Flawless in the least exposed horse in this line-up with just three career starts to date. She has won two of them and finished second in the other. She’s gone off odds-on for all three of them starts so she must be well thought of by the Haggas team. I think a he’ll be well suited by this step up in distance too and at the prices I’d happy to chance the improver here for a stable who does incredibly well with their fillies.
3:30 Haydock
The feature from Haydock comes up at 3:30 and it is the Temple Stakes, a Group 2 contest over the minimum 5f distance.
I’d be happy to give TWILIGHT CALLS (11/2) another chance here. The Henry Candy charge needs a strong pace and fast ground to bounce off to be seen at his best. The ground definitely went against him at Newmarket as it was soft and tacky so draw a line through that effort on seasonal debut. It might even have brought him on. He brings the strongest form to the table with a second at Group 1 level in the Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot behind Nature Strip. If he bounces back to form under ideal conditions, he’ll be tough to beat.
3:40 Curragh
We head to Ireland for one race, the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas over the mile. Not the strongest renewal truth be told but it’s still a fascinating race.
It’s QUAR SHAMAR (33/1) EW for me here. It’s not a deep race like I said so I’m happy to chance a potential improver. The choice of Shane Foley, he improved markedly from his debut effort to win a decent enough maiden at Dundalk in April. He was very professional there and looked to improve a lot from that first run. The Harrington stable are coming to hand now and connections have talked about the faster the ground the better for him. He’ll get very fast ground at the Curragh and from stall 1, he can get into a lovely early position. He’ll bowl along and the Curragh can be a track the ones near the front can sneak away, especially on decent ground. I think he can outrun his lengthy odds anyway.
