ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 28th December from Newbury and Leicester
1:25 Leicester
The first of three lives races from Leicester is at 1:25. It is a novice chase over 2m4f.
It is SUPERBOLT (9/4) for me here. A well-backed winner last time out at Ludlow, he always looked to be travelling best and won pretty decisively in the end. The 4 year-old going on 5 is open to a ton of improvement and with that win under his belt, I think he can continue his progression further. Jamie Brace takes off 7lb so he’s effectively off a 1lb lower than last time out.
1:45 Newbury
The first race live from Newbury is a handicap hurdle over the extended 2m4f.
I’ll chance the improving MR BRAMLEY (7/1) in this race. He improved throughout the season in bumpers last year and has since transferred that progress to hurdles. He is 3 from 4 over hurdles and was a gutsy winner last time out at Wetherby finding plenty for pressure. I think this galloping track will suit well and further progress looks likely. A mark of 124 looks more than fair.
1:55 Leicester
The 1:55 is a novice handicap chase over an extended 2m6f trip.
It’s EVERYONESACRITIC (5/2) for me in this tricky contest. It’s a weak race and he ran in a similar race last time out here at Leicester when finishing a good second. He gets in this off the same mark and looks sure to go close again.
2:20 Newbury
The 2:20 is a handicap chase for the stayers over 3m2f.
I like HENRY’S FRIEND (5/1) NAP here. The Ben Pauling time are in fine form at present and Henry’s Friend can add to the winners in my opinion. A progressive novice chaser last season, he ran a cracker last time out when finishing 5th in the competitive Coral Gold Cup. This is obviously a weaker contest and he looks to be primed for a big run with that effort under his belt after a hurdles run to blow away the cobwebs. He’s a previous course winner and this distance will hold no fears.
2:55 Newbury
The feature race comes up at 2;55, the Grade 1 Challow Novices Hurdle over an extended 2m4f.
It is REGENT’S STROLL (2/1) NB for me who looks to be the most exciting horse at Ditcheat. A winner of both his bumper starts last season, he made a winning debut over hurdles here at Newbury. He ran with the choke out and made a bad mistake 2 out that day. However, he still won with ease and showed he must have a serious engine. This step up to 2m4f looks sure to suit and this is a race the stable like to target. I think he looks set to play a leading role.
3:10 Leicester
The 3:10 from Leicester is the Leicestershire Silver Fox Handicap Chase over 2m4f.
It is HUNTER LEGEND (11/4) I like off bottom-weight. He shown plenty of promise last season but chasing was always going to be his game. Things went wrong from the start at Aintree on his Chase debut and he was never in the race. He showed that was not his true running when finishing a fine second last time out at Wincanton 7 lengths clear of the third. I think his time has to be near and today could well be that day.
3:35 Newbury
The final race is a novice handicap chase over an extended 2m6f trip.
I’d be willing to give SHANAGH BOB (5/1) another chance here with the stable in much better form at present. He was a winning point-to-pointer so chasing looks sure to be his game. He won his first two starts at a low level before being pitched into Grade 1 company at the Aintree Grand National meeting. He finished a respectful 4th there which has to be considered a cracking effort giving it was just his third career start. His Chase debut was poor but I think it was too bad to be true. I am happy to give him another chance because he has the potential to kick this lot out the way. At the prices, he’s the one I’d side with off a mark of 132.
