ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 9th January – Kempton, Wincanton and Chepstow

The weather has played havoc with the UK racing fixtures over the last couple of weeks but Kempton, Wincanton and the rescheduled Chepstow meeting for the Welsh Grand National are all featured on ITV Racing this Saturday.

There are 10 races proposed, weather depending, and Henry has picked out a betting tip for each of the 10 games.

With the unknown weather conditions, we can only hope all this racing goes ahead!

 

1:10 Kempton

The first from Kempton on ITV is a handicap chase over 2m4f and it is a wide open contest to start proceedings. Erick Le Rouge heads the market as he bids to follow up his win in this contest last year but he’ll have to do it here off a higher mark.

The one I like is SMARTY WILD EW. Smarty Wild ran a really solid race last time out where he finished third at Ascot behind two solid yardsticks. He runs off the same mark today and this slightly better surface will suit him a lot more than the heavy ground he had to contend with at Ascot. Solid ew bet for me.

 

1:25 Chepstow

A Grade 1 is next up and it’s one for the juveniles. It will be an intriguing renewal and it should provide us with plenty of Triumph Hurdle clues.

I like NASSSALAM NB here. He hasn’t beaten much in his last two starts, but he’s won them by a staggering 110l in total. Both of them starts where at Fontwell. There is no questioning he has so much speed and I think he could have a lot of these in trouble a long way from home. He’s proven on the ground and it’ll take a good way to go past him today.

 

1:45 Kempton

A handicap chase is next up for punters at Kempton, this time over 3m and Two For Gold currently heads the market at 11/2. Two For Gold is a worthy market leader but this trip may just stretch him.

The one for me is COMMODORE EW for the Venetia Williams team. He was very unlucky not win on his seasonal debut at Haydock where he went clear before being collared on the line. He was then running a huge race at Cheltenham on his next start before unseating at the last. I think the horse has progressed well this season and deserves to get his head in front. I think Kempton will suit him well and the ground will hold no fears.

 

2:05 Wincanton

The 2:05 race is the Dipper Novices Chase over 2m4f. Supposed to be ran at Cheltenham on New Years Day it’s great to see Wincanton getting to host the race.

It’s not the strongest renewal albeit but PROTEKTORAT should win this well. He’s a great jumper and I think he has a bright future over fences. Skelton is likely to go from the front and I think he’ll put pressure on his two rivals with his slick jumping. He’s the best horse in the race and he’ll prove it here.

 

2:20 Kempton

The 2:20 from Kempton is next and it’s the Relkeel Hurdle. McFabulous heads the market and is the best of this lot on raw ability. However, I worry the sticky ground will make things really diffficult for him to display his turn of foot.

Therefore, I prefer YOUNEVERCALL. Younevercall ran a huge race last time out at Ascot finishing 4th behind Paisley Park, Thyme Hill and Roksana which is strong form. He now drops down in trip and I expect David Bass to go to the front on him here and make it a real stamina test. I think he’ll prove tough to pass and race conditions will suit him a lot more than the favourite.

 

2:35 Wincanton 

The 2:35 from Wincanton is next on ITV and it is a handicap chase over 2m4f.

The one for me is GALA BALL. He won this race well last year and I think he can follow up again this year. His seasonal debut was really encouraging where he finished second in a decent contest at Newbury and that should have him put him spot on for a repeat bid here.

 

2:55 Kempton

The 2:55 race is a trappy little four runner affair over 2m4f and it’s a race in looking forward too. I expect Master Tommytucker to make the running here and conditions are perfect for him here. He will get his own way out in front and has won at Kempton before. He’s also fell here twice when in the process of running a big race which is half the problem.

I think IMPERIAL AURA will win this. Imperial Aura jumps very well himself and I’m sure he won’t let Master Tommytucker get away. He’s a strong stayer at this trip and I expect him to pick up the Nicholls charge up the home straight. He has really strong consistent form to his name and can book his Ryanair ticket with a win here.

 

3:10 Chepstow

The eagerly anticipated Welsh National is next up and Secret Reprieve has been all the rage here. He sneaks in the race off a low weight and his run last time out here at Chepstow where he won by 12l was very impressive. The price is just too short for me now.

I’m happy to chance THE HOLLOW GINGE EW here. He ran a huge race last time out when finishing fourth in the Ladbrokes Trophy. He has been dropped a 1lb for that effort which is very lenient from the handicapped and the further step up in trip to 3m6f here on heavy ground is right up his street.

 

3:30 Kempton

Another ultra competitive handicap for punters to enjoy is next up and it is the Lanzarote Hurdle over 2m5f.

The one for me here is MISTY WHISKY EW. He sneaks in off a feather weight off 10’2 and connections will be pleasantly surprised he’s got in. He has won his last two starts well, the last time over today’s distance where he stayed on strongly through the line. He likes to be held up off the pace which I think will be a good place to be as they’ll go fast from the get go here. I think he’s a horse going places and is a good bet at the prices today.

 

3:45 Wincanton

The 3:45 from Wincanton is next up and it’s yet another handicap for us to get stuck into. This time it’s on the chase course over 2m.

The one for me here is MOLINEAUX NAP This horse won this contest last year under today’s jockey Jonjo O’Neill Jnr and I think this is a weaker renewal. He ran a good race last time out where he finished second up at Ludlow. This shows he’s in pretty good form and connections will have been targeting a repeat victory in this contest. I think he’ll follow up his 2020 win off only 2lb higher.
