ITV Racing Tips – Saturday’s Preview and Betting Tips from Kempton, Lingfield and Newcastle
The Winter Derby takes centre stage at Lingfield this weekend and the Group 3 race is live on ITV Racing, along with six other races. The final preperations are taking place ahead of the Cheltenham Festival but there is still some decent racing.
Things get underway on ITV at 1.50pm from Kempton where there are three Grade 2 races. There is one race from Newcastle and three from Lingfield’s All-Weather track including the Betway Hever Sprint Stakes and the Winter Derby takes place at 2.40pm where Father Of Jazz is favourite.

1:50 Kempton
The opener on ITV is a Novice Chase over 2m4f and we have only the four runners declared. Tamaroc Du Mathan heads the market for the Nicholls team but there is stamina concerns over this trip so he is a favourite I’m happy to take on in the opener.
The one for me is GA LAW (7/4). There is no stamina concerns for the Snowden charge here having won over this trip at Wincanton two starts back. He was third behind Arkle fancy Allmankind last time over 2m but I think this trip suits him better. He is likely to go from the front and I expect him to put his slick and efficient jumping to good use putting the favourite under pressure.
2:05 Lingfield
We have some flat action from Lingfield to get stuck into and the first is a 5f sprint race with a few familiar names amongst the line-up.
The one for me here is MOSS GILL (6/5). Miss Gill is the best of these on paper and I think he’ll prove a tough nut to crack. He won on his reappearance last season and a similar display will make him tough to beat here. Anything odds against is value in my opinion.
2:25 Kempton
The Adonis Hurdle for the juveniles is next up at Kempton. Ran over 2m, it’s the like chance for the British contingent to join the Truimph Hurdle picture.
There is a few interesting newcomers worth monitoring in the betting but I think TRITONIC (6/5) is going to be tough to beat. He won well on debut and I got the impression that he would come on a lot for that first outing over hurdles. Alan King knows the time of day with juveniles and I find it interesting that he was considering running him to the Dovecote Hurdle. That to me shows the high regard he holds this horse.

2:40 Lingfield
Back to Lingfield for the 2:40 contest we go and it is the Winter Derby which has been won by some decent horses in the past. Only five runners go to post for this 2021 renewal and all have a realistic chance of winning.
However, I like FATHER OF JAZZ NB (6/4) here. He is totally unexposed and has improved with each outing. Last time out over this course and distance he was very impressive and I think he is a very exciting prospect for the 2021 flat season. This has been the target for a while now and trainer Roger Varian certainly knows the time of day.
3:00 Kempton
It’s Kempton next for the 3:00 race, the Grade 2 Dovecote Hurdle ran over 2m.
I really like ATHOLL STREET NAP (2/1) here who is a horse I’ve had my eye on for a while. He’s been very impressive winning his two novice hurdle starts over at Taunton cruising clear without being asked for maximum effort last time out. This sharp Kempton 2m will suit him well and I think he is a worthy market leader for the duo of Harry Cobden and Paul Nicholls.
Cape Gentleman rates the main danger but he has to bounce back from a poor display last time out.
3:15 Newcastle
We head to Newcastle for one race on ITV but it’ll certainly be the longest race of the day. The Eider Chase ran over 4m1f is a wide open race this year and offers us one of the best punting races of the day.
I’d take a chance on SALTY BOY (9/2) here for the David Bridgewater team. He has a lovely race weight of 10’0. He is definitely capable of landing a race of this nature off his current mark and I don’t think he’s finished improving yet. He is unexposed still over these extreme staying races and hopefully, he can show us that today.
3:35 Kempton
The final race on ITV is a competitive Handicap Chase ran over 3m and the current market leader is 11/2 which shows how wide open it is.
I do like CAP DU NORD (13/2) here. I think he’s a chaser still on the upgrade and I can’t get away from his second behind Gold Cup fancy Royal Pagaile two starts back where the pair were 20l clear of the third. He’s since finished third in the competitive Sky Bet Chase and back on better ground over a track we know who shows his best form I can’t see him finishing out the frame and I have him down as an each-way bet to nothing.
