ITV Racing Tips on Epsom Derby Day 2022 with a 28/1 Each-Way Derby Tip

2:00 Epsom

It’s a tricky opener on Derby Day for punters, a 6f handicap over this unique track.

I’ll chance TAJ ALOLA (14/1) EW here. He has a lovely racing weight of 8’8 here and a stall of 11 won’t be an issue as he likes to come from off the pace. There will be a strong gallop set here with the likes of Sweeping and Nolton Cross likely to go hard from the front. I don’t think the selection has finished improving by any means and his second placed effort last time out at Ripon was his best effort so far. Hopefully he can kick on again on similar ground.

 

2:35 Epsom

The 2:35 from Epsom is a Group 3 contest, the Princess Elizabeth Stakes over an extended mile for the fillies and mares.A lot of these are closely matched on all known form so it’s a tricky puzzle to solve.

I’ve landed on POTOPOVA (7/2) NB for the Sir Michael Stoute yard. She was second last time out at Kempton despite being slowly into stride and having to come round the whole field to challenge. She went down by a head that day and I think she’ll reverse form with Roman Mist today. She’s the most likely to improve from her seasonal reappearance in my opinion and she can continue on the upward curve today.

 

3:10 Epsom

It’s more Group 3 action next up, the Cazoo Diomed Stakes, again over the extended mile.

I like MUTASAABEQ (9/4) here for the Charlie Hills and Jim Crowley combination. A winner at Thirsk on his seasonal debut, he then ran in a decent Group 2 at Sandown where he went down a neck to Lights On. That was a fantastic effort and a repeat bid would see him go very close. The small field will suit him and he can continue improving.

 

3:45 Epsom

The 3:45 race is the famous renewal of the Epsom Dash, the fastest 5f track in the country.

The one for me here is LIVE IN THE DREAM (8/1) NAP. I was really taken by his victory at Sandown in April where he shown blistering pace and kicked on to pull clear. He then backed that up with another victory at the Chester May Meeting. He is clearly thriving at present and I fancy him to complete the hat-trick here.

 

4:30 Epsom 

The biggest flat race of the season comes up at 4:30, the Group 1 Cazoo Derby over the 1m4f trip.

My selection in it is NAHANNI (28/1) EW. You have to respect the Charlie Appleby yard and similar to Adayar last season, Adam Kirkby rides the selection who has gone under the radar. A winner on his last three starts including here at Epsom last time out, he’s already proven he handles the track which is a big plus. Improving with every start and I think he will be well suited by this further step up in trip to 1m4f. A draw of stall 6 is ideal for one who will sit handily enough.
