Longchamp Betting Tips for Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Day 2022

The 2022 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe takes place at Longchamp this weekend and we have previewed six of the eight races including the three live races on ITV and all the Group 1 races on the card.
This is always one of the best days of action of the flat season and although the Arc doesn’t look as good a race as years gone by, there are plenty of potential stories, none more so than last year’s 80/1 winner Torquator Tasso going for back to back wins in the race, although he has a wide draw to overcome.
1:15 Longchamp
The first race on Arc day is the Group 1 Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere for 2 year-olds over 7f.
I like THE ANTARCTIC (5/2) here for the Aiden O’Brien stable. He strikes me as a 2 year-old who’s really improving throughout the season and has followed top 2 year-old Blackbeard home a few times this season. There isn’t a Blackbeard in this. Despite a slow start, he ran a career best last week at Newmarket behind Blackbeard and I think this step up to 7f will bring out further improvement as he’s been staying on well through the line over 6f. This isn’t the strongest renewal either.

Next up we have the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac, a Group 1 for the 2 year-old fillies over the mile.
I like WED (4/1) here. I think he brings the strongest form into this race winning three of her four career starts. She displayed a strong turn of foot and won going away last time out over 7f at Deauville. This step up to a mile can bring further improvement and the wide draw isn’t much of a concern as he likes to sit off the pace.
3:05 Longchamp
The big one comes up at 3:05, the 2022 renewal of the Group 1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc De Triomphe ran over 1m4f.
The one for me is ONESTO (12/1) EW. There isn’t much between him and favourite Luxembourg based on their 1,2 finish in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes last time out and there is a decent gap in their prices. You could argue this return to 1m4f is better suited to Onesto too as his best performance of his career came in the Grand Prix De Paris over that trip. That’s a key Arc trial of course and stall 11 looks a decent enough draw. He looks solid to me and I’d say he’s overpriced.
3:50 Longchamp
The next Group 1 follows straight after the Arc and it is the Prix de l’Opera Longines for the fillies over 1m2f.
It’s ABOVE THE CURVE (4/1) for me here. A rapidly improving 3 year-old that was a decent winner for the column last time out. The trainer Joseph O’Brien said she’d come on for that run last time out and this was obviously the main target. I don’t think there is much between the front three in the market but the draw has been a lot kinder to Above The Curve. I’d expect Ryan Moore to make the most of it.
4:25 Longchamp
The 4:25 from Longchamp is the turn of the sprinters as we have the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye over just shy of 5f.
I think THE PLATINUM QUEEN (11/4) can bounce out and make all here. She ran a cracker in the Nunthorpe at open Group 1 level finishing second before losing a head bobber to Trilium last time out in the Flying Childers. Trillium underperformed next time but I think that just come too soon for her. The selection is so quick I see no problem in her getting to the front. The fact the trip is even shy of 5f is a positive for her and I think she’ll make all.
5:00 Longchamp
The final Group 1 is the Group 1 Qatar Prix de la Foret for the 7f specialists.
My selection is NEW ENERGY (12/1) EW. I think he’s another horse who’s overpriced. He ran a cracker behind Kinross last time out and I think Kinross may just have got first run on him. That was a good effort and the long wide straight here will give him plenty of time to come through the pack. I think he can hit the prices at least in this.
