Lucky 15 Tip for Cheltenham’s Live ITV Racing Today
1:45 Cheltenham
The opener on ITV is a trappy 2m handicap chase with 11 runners set to go to post.
I like BALLYBREEZE (10/3) NAP here for the Sam Drinkwater stable. An easy winner on chase debut winning on the bridle off a mark of 110 at Chepstow, he was then pitched into the Arkle where he finished 7th. He then returned to handicap company at Market Rasen where he looked the likely winner before coming down 3 out. He’s off the same mark of 120 for this and on the back of wind surgery over the summer, I’d expect a bold bid.
2:20 Cheltenham
Next up at 2:20 is the Grade 2 Arkle trial again over 2m. Truth be told, it’s a disappointing turn out with four runners declared. However, all four have a realistic chance of landing it.
I’ve landed on PETIT TONNERE (10/3) here for the Jonjo O’Neill stable. They’ve started the season is decent enough fashion and I think Petit Tonnere brings the most scope for improvement over fences. He was last seen finishing 7th in the County Hurdle here at the festival not beaten far by the winner. He’s only 5 and with another summer on his back, I think he’ll have strengthened up well and could improve past his rivals.
2:55 Cheltenham
The 2:55 race is the fans favourite, the Cross Country Chase, it’s a handicap on this occasion which gives hope to horses outside the Gordon Elliot yard.
However, I do think DELTA WORK (10/3) is capable of giving the weight away under Keith Donoghue. Donoghue rides this track better than anyone and the fact Delta Work has had a pipe-opener this season finishing third behind Minella Indo could prove significant. The slight ease in the ground will favour him too as he’s a dire stayer and Galvin would presume the ground to be as quick as possible.
3:30 Cheltenham
The last race on ITV comes up at 3:30 and it is the Trustatrader Novies Hurdle, a Grade 2 race over the 2m5f trip.
I am going to play a forecast here. It’s CAPTAIN TEAGUE TO BEAT KINBARA. Captain Teague looks one of the more exciting novice hurdlers over this side of the shores. He was a brilliant third in the Champion Bumper last season before making a winning novice hurdle debut at Grade 2 level at Chepstow. He was still green there and he’ll come on for that. He’ll be tough to beat. I do also like Kinbara who looks like a proper stayer and is another on a serious upward curve. He’ll be staying on better than most and although I think Captain Teague will be away and gone, I think he can run on into second place for the forecast.
