Royal Ascot 2022 Day 1 Tips – Preview and Bet for Every Race on Tuesday 14th June

Royal Ascot 2022 is here and Henry has gone through the 7 race card to pick a Royal Ascot day 1 tip from every race. ITV are showing all seven races live, and every race for the rest of the week, so strap yourselves in for 5 brilliant days of action.
As with any big meeting, there are plenty of bookies offers to get your teeth into and bet365 are kicking off with a completely free £5 bet when you sign-up or sign-in to your account. Paddy Power have also unleashed their biggest sign-up offer of bet £10 on the first race (2.30pm) and get a £10 free bet for each of the other six races, that’s £60 in total!
Royal Ascot Day 1 Tips
2:30 Ascot
The opener on Day 1 is the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes over the famous straight mile here at Ascot.
It’s near enough impossible to oppose Baaeed here but he’s no working man’s price at 1/5. I’d much rather back REAL WORLD (6/5 – BETTING WITHOUT FAV) at what is a much better price. He chased him Baaeed last time out in the Lockinge and holds most of these on that form. They could well go a steady pace here which will suit Real World a lot more than the other principals taken on the superstar that is Baaeed. I see no reason why Real World won’t chase him home again today.
3:05 Ascot
The 3:05 is the first time we get to see the 2 year-olds strut their stuff. It is the Coventry Stakes, a Group 2 contest over 6f.
The one for me here is PERSIAN FORCE (3/1) for the Richard Hannon stable. The son of Mehmas made a stunning racecourse debut when powering clear to win the Brocklesby in taken fashion. He followed that up with an impressive victory in a conditions race at Newbury and he looked like a proper 2 year-old. He’ll be primed for this and he is drawn around the pace which will suit him well. The stiff finish will suit as it appears he does his best work in the later part of the race
3:40 Ascot
The second of the three Group 1 races comes up at 3:40 and it’s the turn of the fastest of the fast. The King Stand Stakes over the 5f trip.
I like TWILIGHT CALLS (8/1) EW in this. Henry Candy is very shrewd with his sprinters and this lad is related to one of the better sprinters he’s had in Twilight Son. Twilight Son got better with age and I think Twilight Calls looks set for something similar. He is a strong traveller who will relish the strong pace set here by Golden Pal and Nature Strip. He was a good winner on seasonal return at Newmarket and has followed that up with two encouraging efforts again back at Newmarket and last time out at Haydock. I just think he has the perfect conditions to run a career best today under Ryan Moore.
4:20 Ascot
The final Group 1 on Day 1 is the St James’ Palace Stakes for the 3 year-olds over the mile distance.
I like CHECKANDCHALLENGE (100/1) EW at a huge price here. He was very impressive in winning his first two career starts before being thrown into the deep end in the 2000 Guineas. He travelled well into that race, before being hampered and falling back in the final furlong. However, I don’t think that track suited him and he’ll have learnt a lot from that run. William Knight is in fine fettle at the moment and this Mile trip round a bend could suit more than the straight mile of Newmarket. 66/1 is huge 4 places, 100/1 3 places.
5:00 Ascot
The 5:00 race is the renewal of the unique Ascot Stakes, a flat race ran over 2m4f where we often see the NH trainers sending one over.
The one for me here is ARCADIAN SUNRISE (6/1) NB for the John Queally team. He will be well suited by this marathon trip as he’s pretty slow but won’t be stopping. His market rivals have sexier profiles but I worry about them staying this trip to be honest. The selection ran a huge race in the Chester Cup last time out finishing 4th and I think that was a strong renewal of the race. Hopefully he can come forward again and useful claimer Harry Davies takes off 5lb which is a huge bonus.
5:35 Ascot
Next up is the Wolferton Stakes, a wide-open listed contest over 1m2f.
The trickiest race of the day for me. I’ll have a small each-way bet on REGAL REALITY (8/1) EW. He has often performed at a higher level than this and on a going day, he has to go close at listed level. He ran a cracker when we last seen him behind AW specialist Dubai Warrior at Lingfield back in December last year. It was only last year he was running in Group 1s at Ascot so if Sir Michael Stoute has him raring to go after a break, he can run a decent race here.
6:10 Ascot
The finale on Day 1 is the Copper Horse Handicap, a trappy 1m6f race to bring Day 1 to a close.
My nap of the day is CLEVELAND (5/2) NAP here for the Aiden O’Brien stable. He was an impressive winner of the Chester Cup coming from off the pace to win cozily last time out, albeit the winning distance was only a neck. He’s only been raised 5lb for that effort which is more than fair given the majority of the field would have been laid out for it. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of this horse yet and I think he could well prove to be a Group horse in a handicap here. Doubt he’d be outclassed in the Gold Cup, never mind this handicap.
