Royal Ascot Day 2 Tips – Preview and Best Bet for Each Race on Wednesday 15th June

The second day of Royal Ascot takes place on Wednesday 15th June and there are seven more live races on ITV Racing to get through. Once again, we get underway at 2.30pm with the Queen Mary Stakes.

2:30 Ascot
The opener on Day 2 is the Queen Mary Stakes, a Group 2 5f sprint contest for the 2 year-old fillies.
I like DRAMATISED (4/1) here for the Karl Burke stable. She made all on her debut over at Newmarket over 5f and despite running green she still powered clear to win by 4L. She looks all speed there which is obviously ideal for this and I’m sure she will have learnt an awful lot from that racecourse debut experience. I don’t think this is the deepest renewal and she has to go close for a stable that does well with their 2 year-olds every year.
3:05 Ascot
Next up we have the Queens Vase. This race is a Group 2 contest over the 1m6f trip.
The one for me is NAHANNI (4/1) NB. I was quite keen on him for the Derby but as jockey Adam Kirkby said after, the pre-race fireworks set him alight and ruined his chance before the start. He still managed to finish a respectable 7th there in a Derby I think will work out well as the season goes on. I expect this step up in trip to 1m6f will bring out further improvement as he was doing his best work late on in that race. William Buick takes over today and I think he’s a rock-solid value favourite.
3:40 Ascot
The feature race comes up at 3:40. It is the Group 1 Prince Of Wales Stakes over 1m2f with a short but select field of five runner are scheduled to go to post.
I am going to chance the outsider here GRAND GLORY (9/1) NAP. With only five runners going to post here, this race could become tactical and I don’t expect them to go a strong pace at all. Grand Glory arguably has the best turn of foot in this race and he looks the speediest in the line-up. I don’t necessarily think he’s the best horse in this race but I think the race will be best suited to him on this occasion. He has won his last two starts impressively displaying that useful turn of foot and he should not be underestimated in this contest at all.

4:20 Ascot
It’s back to the fillies and mares at 4:20 as we have the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, a Group 2 race over the mile.
I’m going to play PRIMO BACIO (12/1) win only here. She’s obviously been disappointing for a while now but if she can return to her York win last May then she will go very close in this. Obviously that’s a big ask on what we’ve seen recently but I think this is the first race in a while that looks perfect for her. She needs a mile on quick ground with a strong pace to aim at and that’s exactly what she’ll get today. She’s the type that will either win or come last and at the prices available, I’m happy to take that chance. She has so much ability if putting it all together. Ed Walker’s horses are starting to run better which is encouraging as his stable was in a rut when she made an underwhelming return in a slowly run race at Goodwood last month. I’m happy to draw a line through that effort and give her a go here.
5:00 Ascot
The forever competitive Royal Hunt Cup Handicap over the straight mile is next and it’s as competitive as ever with Astro skint heading the market at 7/1.
I’ve landed on SYMBOLIZE (12/1) EW here for the Andrew Balding team. Firstly, he’s drawn in 29 and I think the high numbers will have the advantage in this based on previous renewals and the pace angle. He made an encouraging return to action at Thirsk over 7f behind Mutasaabeq who you’d have to say is above handicap class. I think this but field handicap will suit him well, as will the step up back to the mile. Harry Davies takes off 5lb which can hopefully be the difference in this competitive handicap.
5:35 Ascot
It’s back to the 2 year-old at 5:35 as we have the Windsor Castle Stakes, a listed race over 5f.
I’ll chance KNEBWORTH (18/1) EW here at a decent each way price. It’s a difficult race to take an angle on as there is so many unknowns at this stage so I wouldn’t be massively strong on anything to be honest. However, Richard Hughes is having a fine year with his 2 year-olds and this lad could be his best. I was impressed with his debut victory at Lingfield where he was backed like his homework had been very good. He then went back to Lingfield for his second start and again, he was massively backed into odds on and hosed up to win easily. Obviously, this is a big step up in class but he’s a nice price and he’s well drawn in stall 17.
6:10 Ascot
The finale on Day 2 is a handicap known as the Kensington Palace Stakes, another one for the fillies and mares, this time over 7f.
I’ve landed on ISOLO ROSSO (14/1) EW here in the finale. She isn’t the most straightforward horse as she likes to take a keen hold and she wears a hood. However, this strongly run 7f seems perfect for her. She’ll be able to sit off the strong pace and come with that late burst she showed to win last time out at Lingfield. I think she’s improving still and the Fanshawe horses are running well of late. Again, I have stronger fancies earlier on the card but she’s a solid each-way bet in this.
