Royal Ascot Day 2 Tips for Wednesday 16th June

Royal Ascot betting tips

Day 2 of the 2021 Royal Ascot meeting kicks off with the Queen Mary Stakes at 2.30pm and Henry has once again gone through the Ascot card and picked out his betting tip for every race.

We always advise getting a free bet for these big meetings because the bookies offers are more generous than ever, and that is certainly the case with this Mr Play bet £10 get £15 sign-up offer.

2:30 Ascot

The opener on Day 2 is the Queen Mary Stakes. A race for 2 year-old fillies over the minimum trip of 5f.

I think Wesley Ward can get a winner on the board here with TWILIGHT GLEAMING (5/2). She was mightily impressive when winning on debut at Belmont and this has been the target since. Wards record with young sprinters here at Royal Ascot is exceptional. He will be relishes his horses getting fast ground for the first time in a little while here at Royal Ascot and I expect her to bounce out and make all under optimum conditions.

3:05 Royal Ascot

The 3:05 race is the Queens Vase, a Group 2 over 1m6f. Aiden O’Brien had a fantastic record in this race and he has a strong hand yet again which includes the clear favourite Wordsworth who will prove popular with punters.

However, I prefer one of Aiden’s other horses and that is ARTURO TOSCANINI EW (9/1). I thought he ran a cracker last time out in Group 3 company when finishing second behind Earlswood. He had the re-opposing Taipan in behind that day so holds him on that form and I fee he’s the type to continue to improve. The son of Galileo will also appreciate this step up in trip too in my opinion.

3:40 Royal Ascot

The 3:40 race is the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, a Group 2 contest over the mile distance for the fillies and mares. Lady Bowthorpe heads the market and she has the best form in the book this season. She is a worthy favourite here but has to be taken on at the current prices.

The one I like is CHAMPERS ELYSEES EW (12/1). She was an impressive Group 1 winner last season when winning the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown. She has disappointed on her three starts since but the ground was far from ideal on each occasion and she never looked comfortable. She now returns to her belovered quicker ground and I expect her to resume her progress now on ground she will bounce off. She’s a lovely each way price here and trainer Jonny Murtagh seems bullish.

4:20 Royal Ascot

The feature on Day 2 is a fascinating renewal of the Prince Of Wales Stakes, a Group 1 race over 1m2f. The superstar that is Love makes her return here and she’ll have to be spot on to win this contest. O’Brien’s horses often improve for there first outing of the season and I’m happy to take her on today.

I think LORD NORTH NB (2/1) can back up the victory in this race last season here. The turn of foot he displayed in this race last season was frightening as he pulled clear to win by 4l on good ground. His comeback effort in Dubai back in March showed he’s in good form and this has been the target since for obvious reasons. I think this 1m2f trip will suit him better than his main market rival Love.

Armory has to step up in reach this level but is capable of a bold show. I’d favour Armory over Love for the forecast.

5:00 Royal Ascot

The Royal Hunt Cup is next up and it is a really competitive handicap over the straight mile. Finest Sound heads the market at 8/1 which shows how wide open the race is on paper.

The one for me is HAQEEGY NAP (11/1). I think he is a Group horse in a handicap. His effort last time out when 4th in a listed contest was a weird race where they went slow and I don’t think it was a true reflection of this horses ability. The Gosden horses where under a bit of a cloud at the time and I think we will see a much better effort this time round. He bolted up in the Lincoln handicap on seasonal debut despite a lot of things going wrong. This race today will be run similar to the Lincoln as there will be a strong pace for him to aim at and I expect him to win here to be honest.

5:35 Royal Ascot

The 5:35 race is the Windsor Castle Stakes over 5f. Wesley Ward holds a strong hand yet again here as he has the front two market leaders who both won well on their debut.

However, I’ll take a swing for one at a bigger price here and that is ALBION SQUARE EW (33/1). He is drawn on the right side as he’ll be able to follow the two Ward horses who are the obvious pace angle in the race. Albion Square has improved with each outing this term and he won well enough last time out at Navan. Trainer Jessie Harrington has a great record with her 2 year-olds and her Royal Ascot record isn’t too bad either. I think he can outrun his big odds here today.

6:10 Royal Ascot

The finale on Day 2 is the Kensington Palace Stakes for the fillies and mares. Lights On and Dreamloper renew their rivalry after finishing first and second here last month and I don’t think there will be much between them again today.

However, I prefer one at slightly bigger prices and that is MOSTLY EW (7/1). She won really well at Kempton on her seasonal debut which had her go off a very short price last time out in listed company at Nottingham. Nothing went right for her that day and I’m happy to put a line through that effort. I think she can resume her progress here and give the Gosden team another winner on the week.
