Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips for Friday 18th June
The fourth day of Royal Ascot is likely to see a change in the weather, and the going, as the rain starts to fall. With that in mind, Henry has picked out his best betting tip for every race on the Friday card.

2:30 Royal Ascot
The opener on Day 4 is the Albany Stakes, a Group 3 contest for the fillies over the 6f trip. It looks a decent renewal of the race and I’m sure plenty of winners will come out of the race
The one I like for today is PRETTIEST (7/1) who I think could prove to be the best 2 year-old at Ballydoyle. She was impressive when winning on her debut at Navan and as we all know, Aiden’s 2 year-olds significantly improve from their first run to their second and I expect her to be no exception to that rule.
3:05 Royal Ascot
The 3:05 race is the King Edward VII Stakes, a Group 2 for the colts and geldings over the Derby trip of 1m4f.
The one for me here is ALENQUER NAP (15/8). I’m surprised this horse isn’t shorter in the betting given the form of his Sandown win last time out. He had the Derby winner behind him in second there and there was no excuses. I think he can improve again and should handle the ground well enough. This isn’t the deepest of renewals and he should be good enough to take this in my opinion.
3:40 Royal Ascot
The 3:40 contest is the first of two Group 1 races and it’s the Commonwealth Cup, a race ran over 6f for the 3 year-old sprinters.
The one I like in this is SUESA NB (9/2). The french filly comes over to tackle the English and Irish contingent here and I think she can leave with the trophy. She is unbeaten in all four starts and has looked a classy exciting filly. I don’t think this is the deepest renewal and I think she has the most talent within the line-up. William Buick is a great jockey booking for connections and she will have no ground concerns. This has been the number one target all season and I expect a bold bid.
4:20 Royal Ascot
The 4:20 race is the second Group 1 and it is the Coronation Stakes for the fillies over the mile distance. 1000 Guineas winner Mother Earth will aim to follow in the the footsteps of 2000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare and add a Royal Ascot victory to her CV. She is a worthy market leader on ratings.
However, the one for me today is SHALE EW (25/1). She was very exciting last season during her 2 year-old season and she was one of the leading 3 year-olds heading into this season. She was desperately in need of her reappearance effort at Leopardstown and that was backed up by the market vibes before the off. She should be spot on now hopefully and the fact she is proven on all types of ground is another positive. I’m happy to give her a chance in this at a huge price.
5:00 Royal Ascot
The 5:00 race is the first handicap race of the day and it’s possibly the hardest race of the week yet. It’s the Sandringham Stakes for the fillies and the market leader is currently 10/1 which says a lot.
The one I’ll play each way here TEODOLINA EW (25/1). She caused an upset when winning over course and distance here at the start of the season and she backed that up with a good effort at Haydock last time out. The strong pace will suit her as she likes to come with a late flourish. The forecast rain is also a huge positive for her. Good each way bet.
5:35 Royal Ascot
The 5:35 race is the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes ran over the round course over a trip of 1m4f.
The one I’ll chance in this is SAM COOKE EW (12/1). The forecast rain is a huge benefit for him and one of his best recent efforts come over this course and distance in July last year. I think he’s definitely got the talent to win a race of this nature and hopefully he can show us today under his perfect conditions.
6:10 Royal Ascot
The finale on Day 4 is a 5f handicap and the draw bias is likely to prove crucial. The ground could be very soft at this point and market movers should be noted.
The one for me here is MO CELITA EW (12/1). She’s a horse that just hasn’t stopped improving and she’s managed to win her last five starts. The way she won last time out suggests she still has room for further improvement and the rain will also be a benefit to her chances.
