Nature Strip – King Stand Stakes (Tuesday)
The first selection for our Royal Ascot lucky 15 tip is Australian raider Nature Stripe (11/4) in the first big sprint of the week, the Kings Stand Stakes. Wesley Ward’s Golden Pal is the favourite for this one but he has been beaten on his two runs in Britain so a chance is taken on the Aussie to win this one. The UK challenge looks weak and the betting is between the two foreign speedsters. Nature Stripe is a 7-year-old now but comes into this race off the back of a 3-length Group 1 victory last time out.
Bay Bridge – Prince of Wales’ Stakes (Wednesday)
Onto Wednesday for our next pick and it’s Bay Bridge (11/8) in the Prince of Wales’ Stakes. On his seasonal debut at Sandown he was impressive under Ryan Moore, beating favourite Mostahdaf by 5 lenghts, propelling himself to the top of the market for this Ascot Group 1. His turn of foot will stand him in good stead for the expected good/good-firm ground at Ascot and he’s tipped to get the better of Adayar in what looks like a cracking contest.
Stradivarius – Gold Cup (Thursday)
The story of the week will be written is Stradivarious (4/1) can bring the curtain down on a remarkable career with another Ascot Gold Cup win and this doesn’t look the strongest of renewals, especially if we get the expected firm ground, putting a doubt next to Trueshan. Stradivarius has looked back to something close to his peak in the past 12 months, winning a thriller at York before a game second to Trueshan at Longchamp over the Gold Cup trip on very soft ground. Hie return this season seen him see off Thunderous at York and his turn of foot was still there. There are doubts about his staying power now he is an 8 year old but he deserves his chance and can sign off in style.
Perfect Power – Commonwealth Cup (Friday)
His run in the 2000 Guineas proved he needs to be back to sprinting distances and the 6f at Ascot should be perfect for Perfect Power (5/1) at the Richard Fahey team. He won the Norfolk Stakes last year, beating Go Bears Go and his return to action this season seen him win the Greenham Stakes at Newbury by 1 1/2 lengths. The course is no concern having won here before and he has done his best work at 6 furlongs so everything looks primed for a big run to complete our lucky 15 tip for Royal Ascot.
