Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips: Race by Race Preview from Musselburgh & Haydock on 3rd April
Our Saturday ITV Racing tips for this weekend comes from Musselburgh and Haydock and after a great day of all-weather racing yesterday, there is national hunt racing from Haydock and flat from Musselburgh on Easter Saturday.
The jockey championship is still not finished and there are more winners to get over this Easter weekend, and Harry Skelton is now the favourite to win the title.
Harry Skelton is in action at Haydock on Saturday, with Brian Hughes in Carlisle.
1:50 Musselburgh
We head up to Scotland for the opener on ITV and it is the Silver Arrow handicap ran over 7f. Stone Solider heads the market for Archie Watson after winning well last time out.
The one I like at a price here is THREE SAINTS BAY EW (11/1). He is a previous course and distance winner and he has a fantastic course record in general never finishing worse than 4th in seven attempts. He has defied higher marks in the past and if he runs to form, this mark of 87 is well within his reach.
2:05 Haydock
The jumps action comes from Haydock and the 2:05 contest is a wide-open 2-mile handicap hurdle. The Skelton team head the mark with Vision Du Puy and a 5lb rise for a last time out victory seems more than fair.
However, the one for me here is DINO VELVET (11/2). He ran his best race for a long time when 4th at Newbury last time out. I think that was a pretty deep race and that is backed up by the clock. Alan King now reaches for first-time cheekpieces and hopefully, they can squeak out some further improvement which would have him bang there.
2:25 Musselburgh
The 2:25 for Musselburgh is the Royal Mile Handicap and it appears a decent little renewal on paper.
The one for me today is FOREST FALCON (11/4). The son of Ravens Pass relished the step up to this 1m distance on his final run last season when winning by 9l down at Yarmouth. I think there is further improvement to come this season and the ground looks perfect for him.
2:40 Haydock
We head back to Haydock for another competitive race for punters to get stuck into. This one is a 3m1f handicap chase and the Skelton pair head the market again with Debece. He jumped for fun last time out on his stable debut when finishing second where he seemed to really enjoy himself. There is a slight stamina concern for me still so I’m happy to look elsewhere.
The one for me is DEFUTURE IS BRIGHT (17/2). He sneaks in at the bottom of the handicap after an impressive win last time out at Fakenham. He’s the most unexposed horse in the race and I’d be disappointed if he can’t go close given he’ll be carrying less than 10’0 with Jack Tudor’s 3lb allowance. He’s proven the ground will hold no fears and he won over 3m last time out staying on well to the line so I have no stamina concerns either. I expect a bold bid.
3:00 Musselburgh
The 3:00 from Musselburgh is an ultra-competitive 5f sprint contest. The lightning-fast Justanotherbottle heads the market for the pair of Kevin Ryan and Kevin Stott and he’s likely to try and make all given the speed he shows. He has a fantastic chance but I’m hoping he sets it up nicely for another one.
The one for me is ZARZYNI NAP (6/1). He’ll get a lovely tow into the race given the fact he’s drawn next to Justanotherbottle and I’m hoping he can come off the strong pace and pick them off in the final furlong. He’s had a pipe opener at Wolves where he finished a good third and that run should have put him spot on for this.
3:15 Haydock
Our final race from Haydock is a for the staying hurdlers. This 3m contest is 5/1 the field and it is another competitive race for us to get stuck into.
The one I’ve landed on is SMALL PRESENT NB (5/1). He has won well on last two starts and I think he is capable of completing the hat-trick here. He won on good ground similar to today last time out at Doncaster where the front two pulled 23l clear of the third and he was always doing enough there for me and looked a nice prospect. The Sue Smith yard are in good form at the moment and they can have a nice Saturday winner here.
3:35 Musselburgh
The finale on ITV is a the Queens Cup handicap. Ran over 1m5f and a lot of familiar names line up here.
The one I’ve come down on here is KINGS ADVICE EW (10/1). He looked a really nice prospect early last season before things went wrong in the second half of the season. Them poor efforts have resulted in him dropping 11lb since last June and I think he has to be of interest given the fact he’s had a nice break now and returns in first-time headgear. If he’s on a going day he’s more than capable of winning a race of this nature off his current mark and given the prices available, I’m happy to take that chance.
