Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips – Six Races from Cheltenham and Lingfield (13/11/21)

The November Open meeting from Cheltenham moves into it’s second day with the Paddy Power Gold Cup taking centre stage on ITV Racing, and there are also a a couple of races from Lingfield for Henry to preview.

1:40 Cheltenham

The 1:40 race from Cheltenham is a novice Chase over the minimum 2m trip.

Only four runners go to post and I’d expect THIRD TIME LUCKI (2/5) to back up his impressive chase debut win last time out here at Cheltenham and win this. He jumped like a natural that day and looked like he could be a lively player in the big 2m novice chase races throughout the season. Mick Pastor is a plot job for the Grand Annual in March and won’t be ridden to win. Captain Tom Cat isn’t good enough unless the favourite falls.

 

2:15 Cheltenham

The feature race of the day comes up next at 2:15 to avoid any low sun issues. It’s a competitive renewal of the Paddy Power Gold Cup over 2m4f.

My selection in this is SPIRITOFTHEGAMES EW (20/1). I think he’s a huge price here given his record here at Cheltenham, especially in these big handicaps where he can sit off the strong pace and pick his way through the field. He finished second in this race last season and is better off with the winner on these terms today. He ran a nice prep race for this over hurdles last time out finishing 4th. That will have blown the cobwebs away and this is his second run after a wind op which is a stat that has an encouraging strike rate.

 

2:50 Cheltenham

The 2:50 race from Cheltenham is a trappy handicap hurdle over the 3m distance.

The one I like here is DRAGON BONES NB (5/1). Connections have won this race before so they know what it takes and Dragon Bones has followed a similar path here. He was a good second last time out at Cheltenham doing all his best work late on, just failing to reel in the winner. I think they’ll go quicker today as plenty of his rivals will want to test the stamina of the favourite Proschema who is likely to travel the best and trade shorter in running. He’s an improving sort that is a nice price in this open contest.

 

3:05 Lingfield

We head to Lingfield for the first of two live races next. This one is a listed contest over 6f called the Golden Rose Stakes.

The one for me here is EXALTED ANGEL EW (9/1). An inconsistent sort but a horse who’s very good on her day. She’s been disappointing on her last three starts but they were all on turf and I am hoping she can return to form back on the AW today. Her best two runs have come on the AW here at Lingfield where she won a decent race at 20/1  in February of this year before following that up with a second placed effort next time out again at Lingfield. She is a nice each way price here.

 

3:25 Cheltenham

The 3:25 race from HQ is another decent handicap hurdle, this time over the 2m5f trip

My selection here is MACKELDUFF NAP (7/2). Olly Murphy is in rude form at the moment and has last very good winning his last two starts. I was there for his victory last time out at Aintree and I was impressed where how he stayed on strongly to win going away. This stiff finish shouldn’t be a problem based on that effort and a 7lb rise is more than fair.

 

3:40 Lingfield 

The final race comes from Lingfield and it is the Churchill Stakes, another listed race, this time over the 1m2f distance.

The one for me here is PYLEDRIVER (15/8). He is the best horse in the race and is a better performer than listed level. He has to give weight away to all his rivals today but if he returns anywhere near his best I’m sure he’ll prove too good for this lot.
