Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips from Newmarket, Ascot and Redcar (Saturday 1st October)
It’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend over in France and there is some top class action from Longchamp, but the ITV coverage for Saturday’s racing stays in the UK with the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes the feature race from Newmarket.
We will have ITV racing tips for Sunday’s live races including the Arc but before that, there is the usual ITV coverage on Saturday 1st October and Henry has been through each of the races with his selection from each. There are eight races covered in total with Group action from both Ascot and Newmarket.
1:31 Newmarket
The opener on ITV is a fillies handicap over 1m2f from HQ.
I’ll chance SOMETHING ENTICING (14/1) EW
1:51 Ascot
The first race from Ascot is the Inns Rous Stakes, a listed race over 5f.
It’s CAME FROM THE DARK (17/2) EW for me. He has some strong form in 2021 winning at Sandown and Newbury with a fine second at Newmarket in between. That was fresh off a wind operation and after a couple of below par efforts, he’s been freshened up and has now had another wind operation. The soft ground will suit and I like the booking of Danny Tudhope who will try and pick them all off in the final furlong. He will be staying on better than most and I think he can hit the frame at least.
2:06 Newmarket
The 2:06 race is a trappy 6f contest for the 2 year-olds.
A hard race but I’ve landed on CLIPSHAM LA HABANA (33/1) EW at a big price. He was well backed on debut at Kempton and ran a decent race, learning on the job and staying on well to finish third. Trainer Kevin De Foy has had a fine season and I just think this horse will come forward a lot from that debut effort. The market vibes that day suggests his homework was good and I’m intrigued by the booking of top Irish jockey Chris Hayes for this.
2:25 Ascot
The 2:25 race is the Cumberland Lodge Stakes, a Group 3 race over 1m4f.
It’s EUCHEN GLEN (16/1) EW for me here. I think he might just get his own way out in front here and he has won this race using similar same tactics in the past. Hamish is a solid favourite but this is a quick enough turn around for him based on previous efforts and the others can’t be trusted to run their race at all. The selection has ran decent enough this season with two placed efforts in his last two starts and I’m hoping he can at least hit the frame here at rewarding each-way prices. The soft ground won’t be a problem.
2:42 Newmarket
Next up we head back to Newmarket for the feature race of the afternoon, the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes over the mile.
I think SAFFRON BEACH (13/8) NB will take the world of beating here. An impressive winner here in this last year, I think she’ll follow it up this year. She brings strong form both over course and distance and in recent form. She holds Homeless Songs in her run last time out and the fitting of a tongue tie is a concern for Homeless Songs in my opinion. Saffron Beach will be able to get to the front pretty easily and it’ll take a very good performance for one to go by her. William Buick takes the reins.
3:00 Ascot
The 3:00 from Ascot is the Bengough Stakes, a Group 3 over 6f.
It’s VADREAM (12/1) EW for me here. Again, a winner of this race last year, I think he’s a big enough price to stick with him again here. He gets to return to his favoured soft ground for the first time since that win and I think this has been the prime target as connections would be hopeful the ground would come right around this time of year. His second two starts back reads well on the book and he travelled well enough last time out at Ayr but didn’t pick up on the fast surface. He will do for me at the prices again.
3:21 Redcar
The one race from Redcar on ITV is the Two Year Old Trophy, a listed race over 6f.
I like BAREFOOT ANGEL (6/1) NAP in this. I was really taken by that victory last time out where he picked up in taken fashion to win a decent contest at Ayr. Trainer Richard Fahey boasts a strong record in this race with wins in 2017 and 2019 so he knows just what it takes to win it. Drawn in stall 11, Oisin Orr will have options and the strong pace he’ll get to aim at will really suit this horses run style.
3:36 Ascot
The final race is the Challenge Cup, a typical Ascot handicap over the 7f trip.
It’s SYMBOLIZE (8/1) EW for me here. The Andrew Balding was a fine second in this race last year pulling way clear of the third and he returns this season off the same mark. He’s got the perfect draw in stall 18 as the high numbers look to be favoured here. The soft ground will be ideal for him and with the Balding team hitting form now, I think it’s time to get him on side.
