Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips – Preview and Betting Tips from the Seven Live Races (24/04/21)
1:55 Sandown
The opener on ITV is a very competitive handicap hurdle over 2m for the novices. Celestial Force heads the market for the Nicholls team who could well have a great day. Celestial Force is a consistent sort but I don’t think he has much room to work with off his current mark.
The one I like is ON TO VICTORY (13/2). The Alan King charge has displayed some decent form of the flat recently and I think he can transfer that level of form back over hurdles on ground he will relish. He was unlucky on Boxing Day last year when coming down two out when beginning to make his challenge in a race won by Third Time Lucki. Third Time Lucki ran in a Grade 1 last time out at Aintree so I expect On To Victory to be capable of running a big race here off this current mark of 146 in a race that will be run to suit his style given the likely fast pace from the outset.
2:10 Leicester
The 2:10 from Leicester is the King Richard III Stakes, a listed race over 7f. 5 runners go to post and you could realistically make a case for all five of them.
However, the one I like is MUMS TIPPLE (7/2). A horse that has always been held in high regard since his 11L win at York on his second career start. He has obviously been underwhelming since but this season he’s returned to a decent level of form on the AW. He was an unlucky 6th on his first start this year when nothing went right. He then won a listed race well over this distance at Wolves on his next start before finishing a good second last time out behind Khuzaam on AW Finals day. He has a fitness edge over his rivals and I expect a bold bid on ground that will suit.
2:30 Sandown
The 2:30 contest is the Oaksey Chase, a Grade 1 over just shy of 3m.
I expect FRODON (4/6) to run them ragged from the front here. He can jump, Mister Fisher can’t. The other two runners aren’t at the level of Frodon. He’ll gain ground at most fences, especially over the railway fences and I think if he runs to form, he’ll win this easily.
2:50 Haydock
We head to Haydock next for another competitive handicap on the level, this time her 7f.
The one for me here is FOX CHAMPION EW (9/1). He was a very smart 3-year-old and big things were expected from him last season but things didn’t work out. He has since moved to the Ralph Beckett yard and the combination of the Beckett string being in flying form and the change of scenery for the horse makes him a bet at appealing odds for me.
3:05 Sandown
The best race of the day, the Grade 1 Celebration Chase for the 2 miler chasers. Champion Chase winner Put The Kettle on heads the market but I’m happy to take her on away from Cheltenham. Altior is an intriguing runner of course but he’s 11 now and his stop start season can only be a negative.
Therefore, I like SCEAU ROYAL NAP (10/3) here. If you watch the Champion Chase back, you could argue the case that he should have won. He was badly impeded coming down the hill which cost him several lengths. Compensation awaits here as he will relish this quick ground where it’s a niggling concern for some of the other market principals. He’s won here at Sandown before and I think he’ll run a big race here.
3:40 Sandown
The finale on ITV is a bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase over 3m4f. Again, you can make a case for a lot of these and it’s a decent renewal of the race.
The one for me is PLAN OF ATTACK NB (4/1). It’s hard not to fancy Plan Of Attack, not only is it coming over from the all conquering Irish shores but it’s the deadly duo of Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. Plan Of Attack was running a big race last time out in the Kim Muir before falling threw out. That suggests to me he’s still well in off this current mark of 149. This trip won’t be an issue and I think the spring ground will suit him well.
