Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips – Race by Race Betting Tips for Live Racing at Newbury, Kelso and Doncaster
There are nine live races on ITV this Saturday afternoon from Newbury, Kelso and Doncaster and although the Cheltenham Festival is only 10 days away, there is still some decent racing to get stuck into.
Things get underway at 1.15pm with a Veterans Chase from Newbury and Henry’s NAP goes in that race at the current odds of 5/1. There is also the 1.50pm race at Newbury along with four races from Kelso and three from Doncaster.
Now is a great time of year to build up some free bets for Cheltenham and you can do this with either one of both of the sign-up offers below.
Join Coral and Ladbrokes and bet £5 on a race to get £20 in free bets from each bookies. These can be used on the Cheltenham Festival.
1:15 Newbury
The first race from Newbury features many familiar names as it’s a Veterans Chase ran over 3m1f.
The one for me here is SHANTOU VILLAGE (5/1) NAP. He’s a better horse on decent ground which he finally gets here after some solid performances on a softer surface. His mark is very eye-catching and one he is capable of winning off. The duo of Neil Mulholland and Millie Wonnacott are in great form at the moment and they can add a Saturday ITV winner to that.
1:30 Kelso
The 1:30 race from Kelso is an intriguing novice hurdle, a Grade 2 contest over 2m2f with some exciting stars featuring in the line-up.
The favourite My Drogo looks the most likely winner but his price is definitely on the short side for me here. I’ll take a chance on ANY NEWS (11/2) who won two novice hurdle races well earlier this season before losing nothing in defeat at Cheltenham last time out when finishing a close second. He’s had a nice break since and as previously mentioned, the Mulholland team are in good form recently.
1:50 Newbury
The 1:50 race from Newbury is next up and this is a Handicap Chase ran over just shy over 2m4f. It is a wide open contest where Grand Sancy heads the market for the Nicholls team at 7/2.
The one for me at the prices is PISTOL WHIPPED (10/1). I expect Nicky Henderson’s horses to start running at the level we expect now we approach spring ground and the run up to the Cheltenham Festival. Pistol Whipped ran a great race last time out when finishing second to Smarty Wild over at Kempton. He’s had a nice break since and he runs well fresh.
2:05 Kelso
The 2:05 contest from Kelso is a handicap hurdle over 2m4f.
The one for me here is TORN AND FRAYED (5/1). He won very well last time out at Hereford and I think he’s well in off a 7lb penalty today. The Twistin Davies teams horses have started running a lot better and I think this one will prove to be still be well handicapped off his current mark.
2:20 Doncaster
We head to Doncaster next and it’s for a listed mares contest ran over 3m on the hurdles course.
The one for me is WYNN HOUSE NB (3/1). She ran a good fourth last time out at Cheltenham in a decent little race where the ground will have soft enough for her. I believe Alan King has been patient with her purposely waiting for the better ground and she is still unexposed. I expect she will prove tough to beat.
2:40 Kelso
The 2:40 race from Kelso is one of the best races of the day in my opinion. It’s a 3m Chase where popular Venetia Williams trained Aso heads the market at 2/1.
The one for me though is CLOTH CAP (7/2). We know Cloth Cap stays this trip very well but there is some niggling doubts about the front two in the market in regards to stamina. Cloth Cap won the Ladbrokes Trophy in decisive manor last time out me I expect Scudamore to opt similar tactics today and make this a test of stamina. If he jumps as well as he did last time here, I think they’ll struggle to go past him.
2:55 Doncaster
The 2:55 race from Doncaster is another 3m handicap Chase for punters to get stuck into on this Saturday afternoon.
The one for me here is BALLYWOOD (5/1). Ballywood is a course and distance winner that is now running below his last winning mark. He will appreciate the better ground as he is a strong traveller that jumps well. This will be his second run after a wind operation so I’m expecting his finishing kick to be better than recent efforts.
3:15 Kelso
The 3:15 race is the Morebattle Hurdle, a handicap hurdle contest ran over 2m. The Shunter will prove popular given the fact he landed a big gamble on his last visit to Britain in the Greatwood Hurdle.
However, I’m happy to take Miss Shunter on with the Dan Skelton trained FAIVOIR (17/2). Skelton had a few entered in this contest earlier in the week so I think it’s quite telling that this is his sole runner. He has won his last two starts well and the form is working out well. I think he’s still improving and I think the way the race is run here will suit him well.
3:30 Doncaster
The finale on the ITV coverage comes from Doncaster and it is a Handicap Chase for the stayers ran over 3m2f.
The one for me here is CANELO (15/8). Canelo just appears the best horse in the race and I don’t think he’s finished improving yet. He’s won here at Doncaster previously which is a clear positive and he ran a great race last time out in the competitive Sky Bet Chase when finishing 4th. If he runs up to form I think he’ll win this race well.
