Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips on 25th September – Newmarket and Haydock
1:50 Newmarket
The Royal Lodge Stakes is a cracker of a Group 2 to start proceedings. A race full of promising 2 year-olds ran over the 1m trip.
The selection in this contest is ROYAL PATRONAGE (10/3). He made all last time out in the Acomb Stakes at York bursting plenty of bubbles and I think there is potential for him to get another soft lead here. There doesn’t seem to be much pace on and he’s a horse improving with every outing. I think it’ll take a very good one to pass him on a track we know favours front runners.
2:05 Haydock
The 2:05 from Haydock is a tricky handicap over the extended mile where Noble Dynasty heads the market at 7/4 and will prove popular I’m sure.
However, the one I like here is CRUYFF TURN (7/1). Two starts back he won a very competitive handicap at York where he led all the way beating one of the Cambridgeshire favourites Magical Morning. He was very unlucky last time out where he was held up and got no sort of run. I expect he’ll return to more prominent tactics today and hopefully he can return to the winners enclosure.
2:25 Newmarket
The Cheveley Park Stakes, a Group 1 for the 2 year-old fillies is next up over 6f. Sacred Bridhe bids to make it from 5-5 and is a short priced favourite.
My selection is TENEBRISM NB (14/1). Aiden O’Brien has returned to the form we expect from his yard over the last week or so especially with his juveniles. This horse was impressive on her debut where she won well at Naas over 5f on soft suggesting 6f would prove no problem for her. She’s obviously had her issues since but it’s fascinating that O’Brien comes here with her on her next start. In a wide open race, we’re a lot of the market principles look evenly matched, she is the unknown and could well improve past this lot. Tasty price.
2:40 Haydock
A trappy 5f handicap is next up at Haydock with many familiar sprinters in the line-up here.
The one I’ve landed on in this is MONDAMMEJ (6/1). A course and distance winner here at Haydock two starts back, he was slightly disappointing last time out in the Portland Handicap. He’s the type of horse that is always going to be a bit hit and miss but this hold up horse will relish the stiff Haydock finish again and with a strong pace likely to be set by Copper Knight, I think he can bounce back and win again here.
3:00 Newmarket
The Group 1 for the 2 year-old colts is next up over 6f as we have the Middle Park Stakes and it’s a fascinating renewal full of promising colts.
The one for me here is GO BEARS GO NAP (9/1). I’m surprised he’s as big a price as he is. He went over to Ireland two starts back and won the Railway Stakes impressively beating Castle Star into second. He then returned to Ireland last time for the Phoenix Stakes but only managed third. Things didn’t go to plan there as he missed the break and didn’t quite seem himself. Im happy to put a line through that effort and I think the bookmakers have thought too much into that run. He is likely to go from the front again hopefully and there is no other pace in the race so he’ll get his own way out in front I think. Rossa Ryan can set the fractions and I think he’ll prove tough to pass here.
3:40 Newmarket
The final race is the competitive handicap that is the Cambridgeshire Handicap. A wide open contest over 1m1f where 37 horses are schedule to go to post.
My selection here is FANTASTIC FOX EW (20/1). I like backing a horse who’s unexposed in this type of race and he fits that bill. He has a lovely draw in stall 23 as high draws often dominate this race. He finished behind Uncle Bryn last time out at Ascot but there wasn’t much between them truth be told. Prior to that he won well at Haydock and I get the impression this type of race will suit him as he often takes a keen hold in his races. Roger Varian is in decent form and hopefully, Atzeni can find the gaps at the right time.
