Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips on King George Day at Ascot and York

Saturday’s ITV Racing tips from the King George meeting at Ascot and three races at York. Love is the favourite for the big race of the day but Adayar cannot be ignored and Wonderful Tonight would love some rain.
1:50 Ascot
My selection here is ATTAGIRL (8/1). She made an encouraging debut at Haydock finishing third before stepping up on that effort significantly back at Haydock on her second start where she bolted up by 4l making all of the running. She looked a useful sort that day and I’m hoping she can continue to progress and run a big race here.
2:05 York
The 2:05 from York is a unique contest as the horses will all be ridden by jump jockeys. A race over 5f, it’s something very different for the likes of Sam Twiston-Davies and Bryan Hughes.
My selection is DARK SHOT EW (11/1). The horse always seems to run his race but never quite does enough to win. However, 5f on fast ground is perfect for him and instructions for Sean Bowen will be pretty straightforward, jump out and make all. May prove tough to pass on this speed track given the nature of the race.
2:25 Ascot
The 2:25 race from Ascot is a 1m handicap for punters to get stuck into.
My selection in this race is FANTASTIC FOX (10/3). He was well backed last time out at Royal Ascot where he proved to be disappointing. However, he touched 11/8 in running the day and he just ran way too keen out in front. I’m hoping he’ll have learnt a lot from that effort as his two efforts before that run were very encouraging. He is unexposed and being a son of Frankel I think he’s more than capable of winning of this mark of 94.
2:40 York
The 2:40 race is a wide open renewal of the SkyBet Dash ran over 6f.
The one for me in this is STREAMLINE EW (10/1). Trainer Clive Cox is very good with his sprinters and tends to land a good sprint handicap multiple times every season. He’s in good form at the moment operating at a 21% strike rate and I’m hoping this horse can give him another winner to add to that tally. Streamline returned from a long break with a solid effort on the AW finishing fourth and he’s bound to come on for that run. He’s one of the more unexposed sorts within this line-up and he is a fair each way price in here.
3:00 Ascot
The 3:00 race from Ascot is another tricky handicap for punters, this time over the 7f trip.
My selection in this is MATTHEW FLINDERS NAP (7/1). I think he’s a horse than has always threatened to blow up away in a handicap off the marks he’s been running off and I’m hoping today is that day. He has his perfect conditions, a race over 7f on quick ground where he appears to be drawn on the right side of the track drawn in stall 20. He’s been dropped 10lb for this race down to a nice low mark of 98 and with Oisin Murphy booked for the ride, I expect a bold bid here.
3:15 York
The final race on ITV from York is the Sky Bet York Stakes, a Group 2 race over the 1m2f.
The one for me here is ARMORY NB (2/1). He is a proven Group 1 performer and he ran well in a Group 1 last time out finishing third despite carrying a 3lb penalty where he was not beaten far by superstar filly Love. He won well at Chester on his seasonal debut beating solid yardstick in Trueshan. He will relish this quick ground and it’ll certainly take a good one to beat him.
3.35 Ascot
The final race live on ITV is the feature. The Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes ran over 1m4f. Six are schedule to go to post but I think we may see Wonderful Tonight be a late NR if the rain doesn’t come. She’s a horse I like a lot but I don’t expect her to run. If she does, watch the market vibes.
The one for me has to be LOVE (13/8). Winner of her last 4 starts, all at Group 1 level she looks every inch a superstar. She showed guts to win on seasonal debut at Royal Ascot where improvement from the outing was expected. She now has that run under her belt and she will absolutely bounce off this quick ground at Ascot today. I’d be very surprised if she doesn’t get the job done here against this opposition.
