Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips from Leopardstown, Sandown, Wetherby and Mussleburgh
We have got a bumper weekend of racing with the Dublin Racing Festival taking place over in Ireland and two of those races feature on ITV Racing on Saturday.
On this side of the Irish Sea we have action from Sandown including a Grade 1 Novices Chase and north of the boarder in Scotland, there are three races from Musselburgh including an ever popular Veterans Chase.
Leopardstown is where the top class action is though and you can get £60 in free bets when you sign-up to Paddy Power to bet on the Irish card.

1:15 Sandown
The 1:15 race is a 2m handicap chase over the demanding jumping test here at Sandown.
My selection is GUNSIGHT RIDGE (3/1). A decent winner here last time out when beating the re-opposing Bun Doran with the pair 10L clear of the third. He still looked a bit of a baby there last time out up the run in and I think there is still further improvement in him. A 5lb rise for that victory seems lenient to me.
1:35 Leopardstown
The 1:35 from Leopardstown is a great renewal of the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle over 2m.
The one for me is FIL DOR (6/4). He brings the form in the book at this level where the market principals have potential but are yet to prove themselves. He is a horse that travels and jumps well but isn’t scared of knuckling down when asked as he proved when beating Lunar Power for the first time. Elliot’s says he is his number one juvenile which is telling.
1:50 Sandown
The 1:50 from Sandown is the 2m Contenders Hurdle, arguably the last chance for an English horse to put their name in the picture for March. The field isn’t strong however.
I’ll chance GOSHEN (11/4) here. A horse of supreme talent but very rarely shows it. However, it was around this time last year he destroyed Song for Someone in the Kingwell Hurdle and hopefully he can produce a similar display here. He ran well last time out despite jumping way out to the left at Lingfield when beating just over a length by Brewin’upastorm. I think he’s the value selection in a weak enough race.
2:05 Musselburgh
We go up to Scotland next for the 2:05 at Musselburgh and it is a handicap chase over 2m6f.
The one I’ve landed on in this contest is GLEN FORSA (4/1) NB. He has been running in better races than this which has seen him drop a significant amount in the weights. Them runs haven’t been without promise and if he can return anywhere near his novice chase form, he’ll absolutely hose up. Of course, he is 10 years of age now but I still think he’s capable off a tumbling mark of 129 in a Veterans race.
2:20 Sandown
The next race is the Grade 1 Scully Isles Novice Chase over the intermediate 2m4f trip.
I expect L’HOMME PRESSE (5/6) to continue his winning streak here. He’s looked a top class prospect this season winning all three chase starts for Venetia Williams. He beat a useful yardstick in The Glancing Queen easily last time out at Cheltenham and I think he can prove he is arguably the best English novice over this trip.
2:30 Wetherby
The one race from Wetherby is at 2:30 and it’s a 3m Grade 2 Novice Chase known as the Towton Chase.
I think AHOY SENOR (4/7) will prove too good for this lot. Likely to get his own way in front he will be able to get into a better jumping rhythm today and use his big powerful stride to take lengths out of the opposition. He has a huge engine and I think he will go close in the Festival 3m Novice Chase so 8/1 could be worth taken today for that race instead of the short price here.
2:40 Musselburgh
The 2:40 contest is the Scottish County Handicap Hurdle over 2m.
My pick here is ANNA BUNINA (10/1) EW. She really needs good quick ground and she should get that today for the first time this season. You can draw a line through last weeks effort as the ground became tacky and she’d have hated it. I like the booking of Scudamore for her as she is a strong traveller and he’s a jockey that often gets the best out of this type of horse. She looks overpriced.
2:55 Sandown
The 2:55 contest is a wide open 3m handicap hurdle for punters to get stuck into.
The one I like here is THE BRIMMING WATER (16/1) EW. I like a horse called Unexpected Party for the Coral Cup in March and this lad beat him two runs back. He looks like a real stayer and finds plenty for pressure. He’ll be suited by this strong gallop over the 3m trip and gets to race off a lovely racing weight of 10’3 today.
3:15 Leopardstown
It’s more Grade 1 action next as we have the Irish Gold Cup at 3.15 over the 3m trip.
My selection in the race is DELTA WORK (11/1) EW. I think his price is wrong here. He won this race in 2020 and was third in 2021. This is a weaker renewal and he’s a double figures price today. He improves for each outing of the season and this is his third run of the season so hopefully this is the time to catch him. He has a great relationship with Jack Kennedy who gets the ride here. Delta Work is only 9 years old so certainly can return to the form of 2020.
3:30 Sandown
The last race from Sandown on ITV comes up at 3:30 and it is a decent 3m handicap chase contest.
The one for me is FIVE STAR GETAWAY (4/1). He bounced back to form last time out when winning what looked a decent handicap chase over 3m at Kempton last time out. He bought Fortescue who has since boasted that form last time out with a good effort. I was impressed with how the selection knuckled down to win last time out and I think he can continue improving and take this race.
3:45 Musselburgh
The Edinburgh National closes proceedings on ITV today, an extreme test of stamina over the 4m trip.
I like HIGHLAND HUNTER (15/8) NAP here. He ran a cracker when second in the Welsh National showing he’s all stamina. He is a great jumper of a fence and he’ll probably get a soft lead again here. The Wolf has stamina to prove and Mighty Thunder has to bounce back from a disappointing effort last time out in the Welsh National too. Highland Hunter has won over this hurdles track and he can add a chase victory round here to his CV.
