Tuesday’s ITV Racing Tips from Leopardstown and Newbury (29/12/20)

The ITV Racing continues on Tuesday with more quality racing from Leopardstown and Newbury. Henry has once again picked out his best bets for each race below.

The action gets underway at 1.15pm in Ireland and there are some free bets available including the bet £5 get £20 offer at Coral.

 

1:15 Leopardstown

The opener at Leopardstown is a mares hurdle over 2m4f. The top stables are all well represented in what looks an intriguing opener to the ITV coverage.

I think CONCERTISTA will prove tough to beat here. She was arguably the performance of the 2019 Cheltenham Festival when she powered clear to win the Mares Novice Hurdle by a wide margin. She returned to action and looked as good as ever when winning at Fairyhouse a shade cozily. She’ll improve for that run too and is the best of this lot for me.

 

1:30 Newbury

The 1:30 race from Newbury is up next and it is a Novice Handicap Chase over just shy of 3m. Sevarano heads the market for Oliver Sherwood after looking a natural chaser in winning his two chase starts this season.

However, I prefer the chances of DEMACHINE who has looked equally as good in winning his two chase starts this season. The form of his Ascot win last time out reads well and he gets 8lb of the favourite which could prove crucial.

 

1:50 Leopardstown 

The 1:50 from Leopardstown is next and it is a cracking renewal of the Grade 1 Neville Hotel Novice Chase over 3m.

I think MONKFISH will win this. Monkfish won the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle back in March where he holds Latest Exhibition. He always looked like a natural chaser and he was impressive on chase debut at Fairyhouse. I believe he is a future star of the chasing game and he will continue to progress for Willie Mullins I’m sure.

 

2:05 Newbury

The 2:05 at Newbury is next up and it’s a handicap hurdle contest over 2m4f.

I like KATESON here who seemed to improve for the addition of cheekpieces last time out at Aintree. He rallied well that day in determined fashion to win a head bobber. He is only up 3lb for that win and that win will do him the world of confidence. He ran a great race here in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle behind Champ a few seasons back and he has won over course and distance previously which suggests he loves Newbury. The galloping straight will suit him well.

 

2:25 Leopardstown

The 2:25 is the Mathewson Hurdle, a Grade 1 over 2m and it will provide us with several Champion Hurdle clues. Saint Roi and Abracadabras renew their rivalry and head the betting.

However I like ASPIRE TOWER NB here. I think Aspire Tower will be left alone in front and prove tough to pass. He made a very pleasing seasonal debut when comfortably beating Abracadabras and he is entitled to improve for that run just as much as Abracadabras was. Henry De Bromhead will be in high spirits after A Plus Tard’s win yesterday and he can have another Grade 1 success here.

I will also advise a small play on SALDIER EW here.  A horse full of class and shows us every time he manages to get to the track. The fact he’s the choice of Paul Townend is significant as Sharjah is a solid yardstick.

 

2:40 Newbury

The 2:40 from Newbury is an ultra-competitive handicap Chase over 3m1f.

I like CUBAN PETE here who bids for a hat-trick. He has looked really good in winning his last two starts and although he’s up a further 9lb he looks a progressive sort that hasn’t finished improving. He was comfortable the best last time out at Hereford and he gets similar ground here over a distance we know he relishes.

 

3:00 Leopardstown 

A novice handicap hurdle is up next over 2m4f. It is a wide open betting heat and I expect we will see a few significant market movers early in the day.

The one I like is LEGACY THOR. He went from the front last time out jumping well enough in the main before pulling clear after the last to win well by over 4l. That was on soft ground over today’s distance so I expect these conditions will be perfect for him. I think he’ll again get his own way in front here and it’ll took a good one to get past him.

 

3:15 Newbury

The most exciting race of the day for me, the Grace 1 Challow Hurdle over 2m4f and we have a fantastic line-up. Bravemansgame was very impressive here at Newbury last time out and looked like a Grade 1 horse.

However, everyone knows I love STAR GATE NAP. I put the horse up prior to him winning at Chepstow on his rules debut and again last time out when winning a mediocre Grade 2 race at Sandown. I believe he is class act and I’m hoping he’ll prove it today. He jumps well and has a potent turn of foot which I think he’ll be able to utilise here. I think his tactical speed will be crucial when they turn for home here at Newbury.

 

3:45 Newbury

The finale on a cracking days action comes at 3:45 and it is a Handicap Chase over 2m. King D’Argent heads the market for the red hot Skelton team and I’m sure he’ll do for many here.

However I like SHANACOOLE PRINCE here. He ran a cracker on seasonal chase debut when finishing second behind a well handicapped Paul Nicholls charge. I think this galloping track of Newbury will be right up his street. He comes from a point background so chasing was always going to be the name of the game for him. The ground will hold no fear and I expect a bold bid from the front.
