York Day 3 Tips – ITV Racing Tips for Today Including the Nunthorpe & Yorkshire Oaks
The 2021 Ebor Festival rolls into it’s third day and we have two big races on the card – the Coolmore Nunthorpe and the Yorkshire Oaks. Henry has picked out his best bet from the four ITV races which could make up a nice lucky 15 bet.

1:50 York
The opener on Day 3 is a tricky handicap over 1m4f. Wink Of An Eye for the William Haggas team heads the market in a bid to make it five wins on the spin.
The one I like is STRAWBERRY ROCK (9/1) for the Hugo Palmer team. He won well at Windsor two starts back on quick ground staying on strongly despite hanging left inside the final furlong. He then went to Newmarket and finished second behind what appeared a useful prospect in Untold Story. He’s only up 1lb for that effort and I think he’s better than his current mark. He’s progressing well and Oisin Murphy is a positive jockey booking.
2:25 York
The Lonsdale Cup is next up, a Group 2 race for the stayers over the 2m trip. Stradivarius heads the market in a bid to win this race for a fifth time. He has been a superstar and will go down as one of the greats. However, he is 7 now and the legs don’t seem to move as quick as they once did so he’s vulnerable here. Trueshan is unlikely to get his belovered soft ground to see him run to his best.
Therefore, it’s SPANISH MISSION (5/2) for me here. He was impressive when winning well here at York two starts ago quickening up well off a slow pace to win decisively. He then ran a cracker in the Gold Cup when finishing third. The 2m4f stretches his stamina I feel but this 2m trip will be ideal on ground he likes.
3:00 York
The 3:00 race from York is the Gimcrack Stakes, a Group 2 for the 2 year-old colts and geldings over the 6f trip. Richard Hannon’s Lusail heads the market coming off the back of a Group 2 win at Newmarket in which the form has had a boost since.
The one for me here though is BERKSHIRE SHADOW NB (3/1). It’s always encouraging when an Andrew Balding 2 year-old wins in debut and that’s exactly what this lad did. He then went to Royal Ascot and backed that up by winning the Coventry Stakes. Last time out at Goodwood he just didn’t seem to appreciate the softer surface over 7f and he done well to finish second there. He now returns back to 6f and back on quick ground and I think he can resume that strong progression.
3:35 York
The feature of the day and arguably the feature of the week comes up at 3:35. The Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes over the 5f trip. The talking horse than is Golden Pal heads the market for the Wesley Ward team and he has looked a beast over in America. Dettori takes the rides and he’s going to attempt to bounce out and make all. He is a fascinating contender. Dragon Symbol has had a solid season but just had too many seconds next to his name for me at this stage.
I like SUESA NAP (11/4) here who was a winning nap for us at Goodwood. She was ultra impressive that day showing a strong turn of foot to win pretty decisively over the 5f trip. I think she’ll get a lovely toe into this from Golden Pal and I expect her to pick up like she did at Goodwood and quicken past him. She’s improving all the time and Buick keeps the ride.
