York Racing Tips for Day 2 of the 2023 Ebor Festival (Thursday 24th August)

York day 2 tips

The 2023 York Ebor Festival continues on Thursday 24th August and we have picked out our best York tips for each race today with a preview of every race on the card.

The Yorkshire Oaks is the big race on 2, due off at 3.35pm with Savethelastdance the current favourite. We have asked @racingToby1 to preview each York day 1 race and you can see his betting tips below.

1:50- Relief Rally (2/1) Win

Spoiler, I’m a big fan of Marquand’s rides across the card. This filly is unlucky not to be unbeaten with only a nose defeat in the Queen Mary to her name, she looks as though she will improve for the extra furlong, a demolition job of the Super Sprint LTO puts her firmly at the top of the market. Cherry Blossom was backed as if defeat was out of the question in her maiden and she duly obliged and could be open to any amount of improvement.

2:25 – Ambushed (18/1) EW

Clipper Logistics sponsor a few races throughout the week so it is always worthwhile keeping an eye on their horses. This 2yo was poor on debut but things didn’t go right from the start and it can be ignored, especially given the way he stepped forward second time out when beating the now 106 rated Ballymount Boy.

3:00 – Eilean Dubh (18/1) EW

Originally I was drawn to Terwada (Tom Marquand) but given his inexperience I wouldn’t want to be backing him in a 20 runner handicap from a high draw. There are many seasoned handicappers in here including Eilean Dubh, twice a winner over C&D last season including on quick ground. He has a poor run to bounce back from but he has done so on more than one occasion before so I’m not worried.

3:35 – Sea Silk Road (22/1) EW

I was surprised she opened up the roughy of the entire field. She most definitely should have won LTO and with a proper jock back in the saddle (Marquand again) I’m hopeful of a good performance. She finished behind a few of these in a Group 2 here in May but she prefers this distance and can make up ground on a few of these.

4:10 – Spring Fever (11/1) EW

It’s not often that Dettori wouldn’t have ridden a Gosden horse until their 9th start but she hasn’t really been up to the standard that would take Dettori’s eye until recently. She ran well enough in a listed race LTO on ground that was probably too soft and a dominant display at HQ before that hinted that there is definitely ability there. I’d give Sea Theme a fair chance but she’s been well backed early and I can’t back Tom Marquand in every race.

4:45 – Inishfallen (20/1) EW

After a no more than average debut, he took a good step forward when knuckling down and winning going away. He definitely seems to have staying qualities as a 2yo and I’m hoping this step up to 7f unlocks more improvement. This is a very open race and I’d be very keen on following the money close to the off because there is no obvious favourite but no doubt there are some good types in here.

5:15 – Nigiri (7/1) EW

Once again, it was hard to get away from Tom Marquand but Nigiri comes from a race of which I’ve followed the form a lot this season. Yes, her last two wins have been on softer ground but a fair debut on good ground leads me to believe she’s not ground dependant. Her 3rd at Wolverhampton reads very well given the multiple winners either side of her that are now all rated above her, there’s still wiggle room off this current mark.
