League Two Winner Betting Tip 2022/23

Stockport County are tipped to achieve back-to-back promotions, being the current 6/1 ante- post market leaders. They have made some good signings in the likes of Callum Camps and Fraser Horsfall. However, they are way too skinny a price for me in what again looks to be a wide-open league. But that of course means there is to value to be had.

My selection here is Northampton Town (14/1 Bet365), who heartbreakingly missed out on automatic promotion last term on a dramatic final day of the season, where Joey Barton’s Bristol Rovers pipped them to 3^rd spot on goals scored, beating Scunthorpe 7-0 at home. They then failed to fire in the play-offs, losing 3-1 on aggregate to Mansfield across two legs. There’s no doubt to me that the events of the final day of the season were carried into the play-offs and ultimately cost them promotion to League One.

I fancy them to put that right this year, and the key to their success will heavily rely on the summer signing of striker Danny Hylton from Luton Town. Hylton climbed through the leagues with Luton and although it is fair to say he was never the most prolific in the Championship, his record in this league for Luton speaks for itself with Hylton scoring 42 league goals in 78 league games. Hylton is getting no younger, now 33, but it’s not just his goals that Northampton will be counting upon this year. He’s known for his hold up play and work rate, and I can see him being a nightmare for defences this year.

League Two Promotion Betting Tip 2022/23

Four sides will be promoted from League Two next spring. I pick one who could turn out to be decent value at their current odds.

I’m siding with Leyton Orient (9/2 BetVictor) to cause a bit of an upset this season. They also finished mid-table last year, and could be classed as draw specialists after drawing 16 of their 46 league outings. If they can turn some of those draws into wins, I can see them being very competitive.

They’ve made a really good signing in George Moncur, an experienced midfielder who has joined from Championship side Hull City. Head Coach Richie Wellens will be hoping that he will be able to notch up plenty of assists for attacking duo Aaron Drinan & Harry Smith, both of whom scored 13 league goals last term.

League Two Promotion Tip – Leyton Orient @ 9/2

League Two Relegation Tip 2022/23

The dreaded drop from the Football League awaits somebody in League Two. Of course, only 2 teams are relegated from this league, making it more difficult to predict who will fill those positions. However, I think I’ve found one at a price which may seem a steal in a few months to come.

Hartlepool United (9/2 with bet365) – Hartlepool finished 17^th in the league last year, but finished the season in horrendous form. They were winless in their last 9, and were fortunate to have already done enough to see them anywhere near a relegation scrap at that point. That sort of form will not be good enough this year, and could see them in big trouble come the tail end of the season.

Luke Molyneux was their top scorer last season with 9 league goals, they will be looking for someone more prolific this year in order to see them away from the bottom 2 positions in the league. They’ve been busy in the transfer market, making 9 summer signings, 5 of those arriving from the Scottish Leagues. Worryingly, none of those are strikers. Experienced striker Omar Bogle has left for fellow League Two side Newport County, meaning there is a lack of depth and experience in the attacking department.
