Arsenal vs Bayern Munich Preview

Arsenal kick off their International Champions Cup campaign against tough opposition. It’s still early in pre-season for both clubs and neither are expected to be at full strength. Unai Emery will be keen to give fringe players plenty of minutes in the run up to the Premier League kick off.

Arsenal transfer failing have been well documented thus far. Their pursuit of Crystal Palace talisman, Wilfried Zaha, seems to be stalling after an initial £40m bid was rejected. The Gunners are said to be inching closer to the signing of Kieran Tierney, but at the time of writing an agreement is yet to be reached. The lack of first team signings thus far may see Arsenal have an advantage at this experimental stage of preseason. However, the refusal of club captain, Laurent Koscielny, to join up with the squad may cause some disruption.

Meanwhile in Bavaria, Bayern Munich have had several incomings and outgoings. Two club legends have retired in the form of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, Mats Hummels has resigned for Borussia Dortmund and James Rodriguez has returned to parent club Real Madrid. The high-profile signings of Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard will look to play big roles in Niko Kovac’s team. So many changes in personnel will no doubt take time to accommodate – this could open the door for Arsenal to take something from the game.

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich Betting Tips

On paper, Bayern Munich posses the stronger squad and would be expected to win. Bayern will be unaffected by the ongoing African Cup of Nations, with Arsenal missing Alex Iwobi of Nigeria. The previously mentioned transfers are likely to have a bigger effect on the encounter and betting against the German champions in an ultimately inconsequential match would not be a bad idea.

With both teams likely to experiment, unfamiliar tactics and playing partners could make defences vulnerable. Having back Arsenal to get some form of result, we expect them to score against a new look Bayern defence. Arsenal’s defensive frailties are unlikely to be resolved so early in pre-season and the absence of their club captain will not help matters. At 4/7, both teams to score looks like a fairly safe bet.
