After winning promotion by finishing just behind Luton Town in League One last season, Barnsley are now back in the Championship and start off with a tricky opening match against recently relegated Fulham. Fulham are favourites to win this match with the bookmakers at odds of 11/10, but home advantage should give Barnsley a chance. The Tykes will also have star striker Keiffer Moore back in their side after he missed the second half of last season with a head injury.

Fulham spent big when winning promotion to the Premier League last season but couldn’t hold onto their top flight status in a bitterly disappointing campaign, they are one of the favourites to win the Championship this season and feature in our Championship promotion predictions but face a tricky start at Oakwell. They’ve managed to keep hold of Mitrovic so far which is a huge plus and he could be the man to steer them back to the Premier League.

Despite being at home, Barnsley might fall just short in this match, however, we’re predicting they will get on the scoresheet in their opening match back in the Championship. Pre-season was going well until a 4-1 defeat against Sheffield United at the weekend ended their run of four straight victories.
