BATE vs Rosenborg Preview

Belarussian champions BATE Borisov are regulars at this stage of the competition, but they haven’t qualified for the Champions League group stage since 2015. They were dealt a reasonably tough looking first round draw against Piast Gliwice, and they came through with flying colours. They drew the home tie 1-1, before wrapping things up in Poland with a 2-1 victory. BATE didn’t play at the weekend, which was the ideal preparation for this two-legged fixture with Norwegian outfit Rosenborg. It’s never easy going to Belarus, with BATE coming within a whisker of holding PSV to a 2-2 draw here last season. They will be confident of hitting the target here, and being able to take something to Trondheim in seven days time.

Rosenborg made a slow start to life in the Eliteserien this season, but they have been slowly gathering momentum, and they currently look a force to be reckoned with. Their defence still needs a little work, although they did keep back-to-back clean sheets against Linfield in the previous round of the competition. That was a enviably straightforward match-up for Eirik Horneland’s men, and this is unlikely to be as simple. Rosenborg don’t have a good record on the road in this competition, and their 2-0 success in Northern Ireland was their first victory on their travels since beating AIK in 2010. They are unlikely to win this tie, but they can certainly play their part in an entertaining contest.

BATE vs Rosenborg Betting Tips

Rosenborg’s away form is fairly ropey, and they’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last seven domestic fixtures on the road. They did keep Linfield off the score-sheet last week, but this will be much tougher. BATE are always a force to be reckoned with at the Borisov Arena. Only HJK have stopped them finding the net here in the Champions League since 2015. PSV needed three goals to see them off in August 2018, and they were pretty competitive in the Europa League as well last season. They beat Arsenal at this ground, and put two past Videoton during the group stage. They won’t make it easy for Rosenborg.

Rosenborg are scoring for fun at the moment, they’ve been the first team to find the net in each of their last six games. Meanwhile, BATE haven’t kept a clean sheet in four games, and this first leg could be a potentially entertaining 90 minutes.

Both Teams to Score? Yes is a tempting Evens with William Hill, and could be a decent way of betting in this competitive tie.

The bookmakers aren’t expecting too many goals in this tie, so it could be worth looking at some of the other markets available. A goal in both halves (for either side) is 21/20 with Ladbrokes, and that looks a superb price. It would have landed in each of the last four (in all competitions) for both sides.
