After making a positive start to the campaign, Leverkusen were brought back down to earth with a bump courtesy of a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Borussia Dortmund at the weekend. However, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about their Group D campaign which begins at the Bay Arena on Wednesday night. Kai Havertz has been the star once again, and he will be crucial to their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stage of the competition.

Peter Bosz’s side have covered more ground than any other side in the division, and they work hard throughout the game. They should be able to bring that kind of energy to this game against Lokomotiv Moscow. They should also welcome back Kerem Demirbay to the side which will be a significant boost.

They missed out on a place in the Champions League last season, but they’ve only lost one game in this competition since November 2015 (vs Atletico Madrid), and they should be tough to beat. Too many draws ruined their 2017 campaign, however, they’re expected to win here at odds of around 1/3. They haven’t lost any of their last seven games against Russian opposition.
