Tottenham v Liverpool: A Champions League Final Combined XI

It’s been 11 years since two English sides met in a Champions League Final and once again the Premier League is proving the cream of the crop with Tottenham and Liverpool producing the most remarkable comebacks to make it to Madrid 2019.

Both sides have had fine seasons, with both looking to cap it off with silverware. It’s a final that perhaps highlights the league’s current strength, backed up by an all-English Europa League Final, with some of the world’s best now plying their trade in the top four.

But who would make it into a combined Spurs and Liverpool eleven?

 

Goalkeeper

Alisson

Liverpool’s Brazilian stopper has been one of the key reasons in why the Reds pushed Manchester City all the way and the side currently sit in the Final.

Defence

Spurs have always been renowned for their full-backs but neither make it in our combined eleven over Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

The young defenders have been instrumental in Liverpool’s attacking play, with a combined 29 assists between them in all competitions.

At the heart of the back four Virgil van Dijk of course stands tall, alongside Jan Vertonghen who would contribute to one of the most experienced and strong centre half pairings in the game.

The latter is going to have his work cut out in keeping the likes of Mane, Salah and Firmino out, and will be vital if Spurs lift the trophy, which most Champions League Final predictions aren’t fancying.

 

Midfield

Wijnaldum, Eriksen, Dele Alli

We’ve gone with an attacking trio in midfield with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen sitting slightly ahead of Georginio Wijnaldum,

The Spurs pair are instrumental in Harry Kane’s goalscoring and the fact we’re dragging them back slightly into a more central role perhaps highlights an area where both sides could look to spend this summer.

Wijnaldum proved the difference in their comeback against Barcelona so is worthy of a place in the combined team, while Eriksen has proved time and again his quality on the ball and is the perfect man to create for our three-pronged attack.

Eriksen will be key in Tottenham’s attacking play and he’s currently priced at around 11/1 to grab the first goal with most bookmakers.

 

Forwards

Mane, Kane, Salah

A Liverpool/Tottenham combined eleven puts perhaps the most potent strike partnership on the planet together in Sadio Mane, Harry Kane and Mo Salah.

The two Reds players finished joint top scorers in the Premier League and Harry Kane had well and truly earns his reputation as one of the most lethal strikers on the planet.
