Blackburn vs Huddersfield Preview – 19/10/2019 Championship

Blackburn had made a decent start to the campaign with four wins from their first eight games. However, Tony Mowbray’s men have just hit the skids in recent weeks with a three-game winless run which included a poor home defeat to Luton. Mowbray has told the media that ‘he is going to need everyone’ if his side are to beat a rejuvinated Huddersfield side and the Teessider has one or two injury worries ahead of this fixture. He’ll be keeping his fingers crossed that star man Derrick Williams returns from International Duty unscathed on Wednesday.

The Cowleys have already begun to have an impact in West Yorkshire with the management duo helping Huddersfield to pick up back-to-back victories and seven points from a possible nine in recent weeks. Although they haven’t played brilliantly in any of those games, the fans can already see a massive improvement from their side and tactically, they look far more organised. They’ll be hoping to keep that unbeaten run going in front of the TV cameras on Saturday.

 

Rovers’ Lack of Defensive Cover

As previously mentioned, Derrick Williams is due back from International duty and Mowbray will be hoping that the defender is fit enough to play on Saturday. The Lancastrian club suffered a significant blow with the news that Darragh Lenihan is likely to be out for up to eight weeks whilst Greg Cunningham is also suffering on the sidelines. It will result in a reshuffle at the back which may see Amari Bell move across. All of this could play into the hands of Hudderfield.

Blackburn have been excellent defensively this season and the combination of Lenihan and Williams has been a significant part of their success. The duo will be apart for at least ten games and that is not good news.

 

Can Juninho Bacuna Make it Three in a Row?

It’s fair to say that Juninho Bacuna got off to a slow start in West Yorkshire. The Groningen-born midfielder was perhaps more famous for his errors than his positive play during his first season at the club. However he seems to have found his rhythm under the Cowleys and they are certainly bringing out the best in him. The Dutchman has scored two in two and averages around 1.4 shots per game. Crucially, he’s getting himself into goalscoring positions and he can help take the burden off Karlan Grant and Fraizer Campbell this season.

He is 11/1 with Betfair to score anytime in this contest which looks like decent value considering his current form

 

Tighter at the Back

As well as looking more of a threat in the final third, Huddersfield have also improved at the back. They have conceded just a single goal in their last three matches and aren’t making sloppy errors in defence. Blackburn are scoring goals and have netted 13 times this campaign so this will be a real tough test for them at Ewood Park.
