Community Shield Betting Odds, Predictions and Betting Tips 2020 – Arsenal vs Liverpool
Arsenal face Liverpool in the traditional season curtain-raiser just a week after the Champions League final took place in these unprecedented times, but which team are favourites to win the Community Shield and what will the starting line-ups look like for both Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp?
Since winning the FA Cup, Arsenal have only played one pre-season friendly match which resulted in a 4-1 win against MK Dons. Arteta put out a relatively strong team for that match with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Xhaka, Saka and Leno all starting the match. It is likely that these will all be involved this weekend at Wembley.
Liverpool have played two friendly matches ahead of the Community Shield – they beat Stuttgart 3-0 on Saturday before coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Reb Bull Salzburg on Tuesday. Rhian Brewster got both the goals in the match after coming on as a second half substitute. Jurgen Klopp also played a strong starting 11 with almost all of last season’s first team starting the game.
Community Shield 2020 Betting Odds
In the latest betting odds with bet365, Liverpool are the 13/20 favourites to win the match in 90 minutes.
Arsenal’s odds to win the Community Shield are 4/1.
The odds for the match to be a draw after 90 minutes are 3/1.
If you think there will be goals in the Community Shield this weekend then both teams to score is priced at 8/13 with bet365 and over 2.5 goals is currently 4/7. Three of the last four Community Shield’s have seen both team score but only one of the last five have had over 2.5 goals. Under 2.5 goals could be a good bet here and it is best odds 11/8 with bet365.
In the goalscorer odds, bet365 have priced up Mo Salah as the 10/3 favourite to be first goalscorer and 5/6 to score anytime. Sadio Mane is 4/1 to score the first goal or 21/20 to score anytime in the match.
For Arsenal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be the main threat in front of goal and bet365 have him at odds of 5/1 to score the first goal or 11/8 to score anytime.
Of the bigger prices in the anytime goalscorer odds, Trent Alexander-Arnold is 13/2, former Arsenal man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is 13/5, Granit Xhaka is 10/1 and David Luiz is 11/1.
Arsenal vs Liverpool Community Shield Preview
This year’s Community Shield takes place two weeks before the start of the new Premier League season, scheduled for the weekend of the 12th September. Premier League Champions Liverpool will take on FA Cup winners Arsenal at an empty Wembley Stadium in the quest to pick up the first piece of silverware of the 2020/21 campaign.
Liverpool cruised their way to the Premier League title last season and even though some fans from other clubs will always see it as a tainted title, there is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp’s side were deserved winners of their first title for 30 years. They eventually won the league by 18 points to Manchester City, finishing on 99 points.
Arsenal beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final thanks to two goals from Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang but finished the Premier League season down in 8th place, a full 43 points behind Liverpool.
Liverpool lost last season’s Community Shield to Manchester City in a penalty shoot-out but are well fancied to win this season’s curtain-raiser at odds of 13/20, with Arsenal still in transition under Mikel Arteta, the Reds look like worthy favourites.
Jurgen Klopp has had his side preparing for the start of the season at a training camp in Austria and they’ve played two friendly matches so far, with Arsenal only playing one. Liverpool also had a longer break than Arsenal because the FA Cup final took place five days after Liverpool’s last game of the extended 2019/20 season. All of these factors will help Liverpool on Saturday afternoon at Wembley.
Arsenal vs Liverpool Head to Head Stats
Even though the record for low scoring Community Shield matches is strong in recent seasons, the recent Liverpool v Arsenal fixtures don’t seem to follow that trend and last season’s 5-5 draw in the League Cup illustrate that perfectly. The last 10 meetings have all had over 2.5 goals in them and nine of those 10 matches have seen both teams score.
Liverpool have dealt out some big defeats to the Gunners in recent seasons including 5-1, 4-0 and 3-1 wins at Anfield in the past three years however, at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal do fare much better. They beat Liverpool 2-1 towards the end of last season and Liverpool have only won there once in the last nine attempts. Unfortunately for Arsenal, this match is being played at Wembley.
15/06/20 PL Arsenal 2 Liverpool 1
30/10/19 LC Liverpool 5 Arsenal 5 (Liverpool won 5-4 on penalties)
24/08/19 PL Liverpool 3 Arsenal 1
29/12/18 PL Liverpool 5 Arsenal 1
3/11/18 PL Arsenal 1 Liverpool 1
Arsenal vs Liverpool Prediction – Liverpool to win High Scoring Contest
There is little chance of either of these sides being 100% match fit for this game given that the Premier League season is still two weeks away. With both sides so strong going forward I’m predicting a high scoring match here and the odds for Liverpool to win and both teams to score are appealing at 21/10 with bet365. This means if Liverpool win the match in the 90 minutes but Arsenal get on the scoresheet, the bet is a winner.
It is hard to see how Liverpool will fail to score goals against this Arsenal defence, especially if Mo Salah and Sadio Mane start the match as expected.
Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 21/10 with bet365.
Community Shield Prediction – Aubameyang to Score at Wembley Again
With goals expected, there is every chance that Aubameyang will get his third Wembley goal in little over a month this weekend. He scored twice in the FA Cup final and looks the main danger to Liverpool on Saturday.
The striker’s (or midfielder’s if you believe FPL) future is still undecided bu Mikel Arteta will be insisting that he stays at the club and a new long term deal looks set to be signed. It would be a massive boost to Arsenal if Aubameyang were to stay at at odds of 13/10 he is a good bet to score anytime in the Community Shield.
Aubameyang to score anytime – 13/10 with bet365.
