The Rams needed extra time and penalties to make it through to the fourth round of the competition and Frank Lampard’s men will be confident of progressing against League One opposition. Earlier in the season, this would have had all of the makings of a cup upset but Accrington’s form has nosedived of late and they are struggling for goals. Accy are in danger of freefalling into the relegation zone in League One but this will be a welcome distraction for the Lancashire club. They’ve won just twice since mid-October and they could struggle against a lively Derby side who are scoring plenty of goals. Lampard’s men weren’t at their fluent best last weekend but they managed to see off a rejuvinated Reading side. Although Accrington are capable of a top-class performance, I don’t forsee a shock in this FA Cup game.

Martyn Waghorn is a player who isn’t always a guaranteed starter and he has to compete with a number of talented strikers at the club. The former Ipswich man has performed well whenever he’s been given the nod and he netted in the last round. In fact, three of his five goals this season have come in cup competitions and he’s becoming a bit of a specialist are scoring in knock-out events.

Accrington defended well for long periods of the game against Charlton last weekend but they weren’t able to deny the Addicks a last minute penalty. With changes expected to the Derby squad, they potentially find it difficult to break down this dogged Accrington defence. The Rams are often involved in high-scoring games but with Accrington’s recent lack of prowess in the final third, their defence may not be overly exerted here.

Outside of their 1-0 victory over Ipswich, Accrington haven’t found the net since Boxing Day and have netted just seven times in eleven League One games. I don’t expect a high-scoring encounter at the Wham Stadium.
