This all Championship clash is predicted to be one of the closer matches in the EFL Cup this week. Both sides were beaten in their first game of the Championship season on Saturday but both will be looking to get into the play-offs come the end of the campaign. Both sides might make changes ahead of this tie.

 

Derby vs Preston Prediction

The Rams were beaten 2-0 at home by Reading on Saturday, not the start manager Phillip Cocu would have wanted from his side. They finished last season with four defeats in their last five home matches and Saturday’s loss continues a bad run. The Derby backroom are not shy in making quick changes so Cocu will already be a man under pressure if they are beaten by Preston here.

North End did not have a good result themselves at the weekend, losing 1-0 at home to Swansea City.

Preston have, however, scored in their last eight matches in the EFL Cup and were convincing 4-0 winners against Mansfield Town in the last round, this will be tougher but I’m expecting at least both teams to score to land here. This one looks too close to call on paper and we could need penalties!
