Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United got off to the perfect start with a 3-1 victory away at Ashton Gate. Bristol City were poor throughout, and they just couldn’t cope with their opponents energy. The West Yorkshire side got off to an equally fast start twelve months ago, winning four of their first five games in the Championship, and at odds of 1/2, they’re fancied to make it a perfect two from two once again. Pablo Hernandez, who appeared a little jaded at the back end of last season, looks back to his imperious best, whilst Ben White slotted in seamlessly at the back. The squad still looks on the small side, but that’s the way Bielsa reportedly likes it, and time will tell whether it’ll count against them in the long run. Their home record was sensational last year with 14 wins from 24 matches at Elland Road, and they will fancy their chances of beating Nottingham Forest in front of the passionate home fans. They failed to beat the Tricky Trees twice last season, going down 4-2 at the City Ground, and settling for a 1-1 draw here at Elland Road.

Forest took the lead through a superb Matty Cash effort, but Sabri Lamouche’s men couldn’t hold onto the lead, and were defeated 2-1 at the hands of West Brom. They have made a number of new additions this summer, although their squad still looks a little on the bloated side. Carl Jenkinson and Samba Sow have both arrived in the East Midlands this week whilst Brice Samba will surely rival a shaky-looking Arijanet Muric for the gloves. Although they were under different management, Forest’s away form was pretty abysmal last year, and they won just once on the road in 2019. Only Middlesbrough, Bolton, QPR and Hull were beaten by them on their travels, and they won’t be expected to spring an upset here. We are still waiting to see if Lamouche has a preferred playing style, although he is known for encouraging his side to attack.

It’s hard to see Leeds slipping up here, although they are heavily odds on to pick up three points. They did slip up against Forest last season, but they have hit the ground running, and their opponents may need a few weeks to find the winning formula. Very few sides will keep Leeds off the score-sheet this season, and the Whites should be able to bag a couple here. To find some value, backing Leeds Win and Over 1.5 Match Goals looks like a sensible way to approach this. It’s 5/6 with Paddy Power.

Leeds created plenty of chances against Bristol City, and they are likely to carve out a few more here. They achieved an XG of 1.7 with Patrick Bamford having the best opportunities. The former Boro man is a little hit and miss, but he should be able to find the net again here, and is 6/5 to do so. With Pablo probing in behind, he should get a few chances against Lamouche’s men.
