Our Nations League predictions continue on Friday night with a game from League C between Slovenia and Norway. The away side have put themselves in a great position to qualify for Euro 2020 and they are enjoying a profitable spell at the moment. Lars Lagerback described his side’s performance against Bulgaria as “the best game” since he arrived and that gives them plenty to build upon. They kept yet another clean sheet, despite some defensive upheaval coming into the game and it moved them to the top of the group. They have now won three times in this competition and they’ve all been by the same score-line. Lagerback’s side have a couple of injury worries once again and Josh King isn’t likely to feature whilst Tarik Elyounoussi will face a late fitness test ahead of this clash. The former Sweden coach has also opted to leave out Ola Kamara and Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth for this crucial double-header. Slovenia’s form has been awful. They are fighting against relegation and did manage to salvage a point against Cyprus in October but that was a game in which they were disappointed not to take all three. They lost each of their first three games and need to pick up something from this clash in Ljubljana but they are bereft of confidence and it’s hard to see them breaking down a solid Norwegian outfit. The away side should win this game although their lack of clinical finishing is perhaps a minor concern. They should have been out of sight in the first meeting between these sides but scored just a single goal. Nevertheless, they are playing with confidence and I think they’ll edge it.

Slovenia’s lack of goals is a real concern and they barely troubled the Norwegian defence in the reverse fixture. With doubts over a number of players for Norway, the anytime goalscorer market is relatively tricky. Stefan Johansen is definitely going to be involved and should play a big role. Although he’s had a relatively low-key start to life in the Premier League, Johansen has been playing well for his country and looks decent value at 5/1 to find the net at any point. He netted twice in Norway’s opening Nations League clash with Cyprus and stands a decent chance of netting his third goal in this competition.

Despite being the away side, Norway begin as favourites for this clash. Lars Lagerback’s side need the points in order to keep their qualification hopes alive here and they can also relegate their hosts in the process. They are available at 13/10 to pick up all three points in Ljubljana. The draw is tempting and it was the outcome of Slovenia’s last home game. That’s available at 12/5. Slovenia desperately need to get back to winning ways but confidence is extremely low at the moment and they haven’t won a competitive game for over 13 months. They are also 12/5 to end that unwanted sequence here.

Tarik Elyounoussi needs to overcome a late fitness test but if he plays, he will be a constant threat. The AIK striker, who is fresh from helping his side to finish top of the Allsvenskan is available at 13/2 to break the deadlock.
