Both of these teams are perhaps surprise inclusions in the Nations League semi-finals, in particular Switzerland, who overcame Belgium in their Group thanks to a fantastic 5-2 victory over the Red Devils on the last match day. That has brought them to within touching distance of the inaugural Nations League final, taking place on Sunday. Portugal had a slightly easier time of things but did have to navigate past Italy in their group. Their 1-0 win against the Italians in their first Nations League fixture proves to be crucial in securing top spot.

The reigning European Champions were poor at the 2018 World Cup and after scraping through their group they were eliminated by Uruguay, in truth, even when winning Euro 2016 they didn’t set the world alight and just about did enough in each match right up to winning the final against favourites France. Cristiano Ronaldo is back in the Portugal squad for the first time since the World Cup and with attacking partners such as Bernardo Silva, Goncalo Guedes, and Joao Felix, the Portuguese aren’t short of quality at the top end of the pitch.

Granit Xhaha and Xherdan Shaqiri are in the squad, Shaqiri fresh from lifting the Champions League trophy with Liverpool and Xhaka after losing the Europa League final with Arsenal.

The Swiss are the surprise addition to this UEFA Nations League last four and their appearance here was made all the more surprising by the way they got here. Needing to beat Belgium on the last match-day they ran out 5-2 winners. They have followed up that win with a decent start to Euro 2020 qualifying, beating Georgia 2-0 and drawing 3-3 with Denmark. There is talent in this Swiss side, but they do throw in the odd bad performance such as the 1-0 defeat to Sweden in the World Cup last 16 and a recent 1-0 loss to Qatar in a friendly.
