Andy Carroll’s West Ham career appears to be over

In a career that has been plagued with injuries, it appears that Andy Carroll’s tenure at West Ham is drawing closer to an end.

Sky Sports News have confirmed that the 30-year-old has undergone surgery on an ongoing ankle injury and will now miss the remainder of the campaign.

After picking up the injury last month, the striker had previously refused the operation but has now has given up his battle to go under the knife.

Carroll sees his current contract at the London Stadium expire in the summer and many at West Ham are now expecting the former England international to leave on a free transfer.

Carroll on his way out of West Ham

Since moving from Anfield permanently back in 2013, Carroll’s six-year stay at West Ham has been hit with a string of injury issues.

Managing to make just 102 top-flight appearances for the Hammers, he has managed just 12 this season and has not featured since a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City at the end of February.

Carroll’s sole goal this campaign came in their 2-0 FA Cup third round win over Birmingham back in January.

Speaking about Carroll’s latest injury issue last week, Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini announced that he had no news regarding Carroll’s contractual situation but the latest surgery, and the rehabilitation phase which follows, will not help his case for an extension.

Carroll’s current deal with the Hammers will end after their final Premier League match against Watford on the 12th of May.

Sadly for West Ham, it also appears that another one of their stars will miss the remainder of the campaign after failing to win their battle against injury.

Suffering a torn Achilles against Tottenham in October after a bright start to life in the Premier League, £18million summer signing Andriy Yarmolenko is another who has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines.

While Pellegrini confirmed that Yarmolenko has returned to training, the former Manchester City boss remains incredibly doubtful that the winger will return before the season draws to an end.

“Yarmolenko is working very well, he has no pain, he is running and kicking the ball, but maybe it will be too soon for him to play before we finish,”

“The Achilles tendon is one of the worst injuries you can have because you cannot go faster, you must exercise the ligament and then wait.

“To play this season I don’t think would be good for him. It would be better to do a very good pre-season.”
