Expert Tipster Prediction: Spurs dropped to third place over the weekend and will be extremely wary of slipping up again when they play Cardiff in South Wales. Manchester City’s victory against Southampton saw them climb to second spot and I expect Spurs to be ruthless here given what’s at stake. They have no option but to win, which I think they’ll do handsomely.

Another defeat for Tottenham here could see Chelsea, too, go past them despite the fact that the former occupied second spot in the table just 48 hours ago. Aside from Liverpool, none of the other so-called big hitters have shown the sort of consistency they’d like as we head into the second half of the season. Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be looking to strike back with a vengeance on Monday evening with a trip to Cardiff almost certainly regarded as one of the easiest places to go to. With that said, the Bluebirds have picked up in recent weeks and their four victories at home are undoubtedly the reason they are currently located above the relegation zone. Whenever you think about Tottenham’s attack there’s one name that immediately comes to the forefront of your mind, which is hardly surprising. Harry Kane has been Spurs’ go-to man for goals since bursting on to the scene five years ago and is well on course to beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260 goals. But with such a reputation and a penchant for scoring comes a proportionate price as far as anytime goalscorer markets are concerned!

Despite Kane’s excellence, you can’t back him to score in 90 minutes when prices are as low as 1/3 in places! Fortunately, Spurs have other reliable options with Son Heung-Min arguably the best example of this. The Korean was on fire before Tottenham’s defeat to Wolves and was actually out-scoring Kane during a recent purple patch. I’m backing Son to get back in the goals at Cardiff and am happy to have a nibble on him to do so at 6/4.

Despite impressively picking up points in half of their home Premier League games to date, Cardiff do possess a slightly unfortunate statistic to go alongside their generally solid form. The Bluebirds have conceded more goals in front of their own fans than any other team in the top flight, so you’d imagine Neil Warnock will be treating Spurs’ visit with much trepidation. The Londoners, by contrast, would top the table if only away form was taking into account and they’ve scored 25 goals on the road so far – more than any other side.

Two days ago I’d have been a lot more confident with this selection – or at least as confident as you realistically can be when touching the correct score market. Their wobble against Wolves, although a concern, shouldn’t be indicative of their ability to dismantle Cardiff if their star men are on it. I can see Tottenham righting a few wrongs to kick off the New Year and a 3-0 away victory would certainly be a good way of doing just that.
