Man United vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips

There’s no doubt about it – Manchester United are simply miles away from being the team that dominated English football for a decade. And for every unexpectedly good result like their recent win away at Juventus, there’s an equally shocking defeat never seemingly too far away. I’m certainly not suggesting they’re not capable of beating Crystal Palace this weekend, because they are. But I can’t for the life of me see why they’re such heavy favourites when they’ve failed to win half of their Premier League matches up till this point. For that reason, I’ll take the 9/4 on my Man United vs Crystal Palace predictions available with Betfred on the visitors heading back to London with at least a point in the bag.

Once ostracised by Jose Mourinho and seemingly on the way out, Anthony Martial is now very much United’s go-to man when it comes to digging them out of a hole. The French forward is beginning to show signs of the kind of form Red Devils fans were hoping for when he transferred from Monaco for a fee now exceeding £50m. Martial has developed a good understanding with Paul Pogba – when the latter has played, anyway – and I see no reason why the two can’t combine once again against Crystal Palace this weekend. William Hill are paying 13/10 on Martial scoring anytime which looks a more than backable Man United vs Crystal Palace betitng tips given his recent purple patch.

Man United vs Crystal Palace Preview, Stats and Head to Head

There is no doubting that Manchester United have been poor this season but looking at the stats in this Man United vs Crystal Palace preview, we could be in for an entertaining match with both teams involved in a lot of high scoring matches already this season.

Once upon a time, United would be a 1/6 poke for this fixture and considered an absolute shoo-in for victory. The fact they’re 2/5 and it still looks a little too short tells you all you need to know about their decline on the field.

Make no mistake, Crystal Palace are themselves a poor side and will be fighting relegation if their current form continues into the new year. I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole at 8/1 but as I mentioned earlier, this is exactly the sort of fixture that Manchester United slip up in.

Man United Preview, Form and Stats

Man United will be without Luke Shaw who is suspended after amassing five yellow cards this season. There are a few niggles in the squad but the likes of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial are expected to be fit to return to the line-up.

They have only won half of their matches so far this season but they’ll be fully expected to win against an average Crystal Palace side here. Before the loss to Manchester City, United looked like turning a corner with wins over Everton, Bournemouth and Juventus but it remains to be see if Jose Mourinho has turned the tide.

Crystal Palace Preview, Form and Stats

It looks like another season of struggle for Crystal Palace having won just two matches all season. They are once again over reliant on star man Wilfried Zaha but he has been struggling with injury recently and missed the match against Tottenham, he is expected to play here though.

Christian Benteke, Connor Wickham, and Scott Dann are all still out injured.

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Prediction

Before the season began, you’d have got very long odds on Manchester United having a negative goal difference as we approach the festive period. Yet, somehow, that’s exactly the situation they find themselves in. No longer among the division’s highest scorers, United have also suffered a real vulnerability at the back which is an unwelcome combination for supporters. Sure, they do put it together from time to time but that’s now more of an exception rather than the rule. I’m prepared to stick my neck on the line and predict a frustrating afternoon for the 20-time English champions and will be snapping up the 6/4 with Coral on United failing to score twice or more.
