These two teams are separated by just one place and one point in the Premier League table and both Neil Warnock and Rafa Benitez will be eager to get the three points here. Cardiff would probably be happy with a draw given that they are away from home, and it would mean they stay one point above Newcastle in the table.

The Toon Army travelled down to Blackburn for a 4-2 win over the Championship side in the FA Cup but they did need extra-time and picked up a few injuries. Defensively they will be short but Cardiff don’t score many goals so they might get away with a lack of experience. The tentative selection for our Newastle vs Cardiff prediction is a home win here – if they don’t win this match they might as well start preparing for life back in the Championship because there will be much, much tougher tasks ahead.

The Magpies have only won twice at home all season, but in six of their 11 matches they have scored exactly one goal. That is a decent stat to base our correct score prediction on here – couple that up with Cardiff’s appalling goalscoring record of late and this could be a tight 1-0 victory for Newcastle.

Any result for Benitez and the St. James’ Park faithful will do here and a 1-0 win might be just what they need. It would lift them out the relegation zone ahead of tough fixtures against Manchester City and Tottenham.
