Premier League Weekend Review – Who were the winners and losers from this weekend’s fixtures?
Like any other, it was a Premier League weekend filled with goals, debate, fights and controversy. Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the table and Watford climbed out of the relegation zone – with a lot in between.
We’ve had a look at the winners and losers from all the action.
Winners
Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick for Man City
Sergio Aguero netted a brilliant hat-trick in Manchester City’s 6-1 trouncing of Aston Villa on Sunday, and, in doing so, became a record-breaker.
His second goal saw him pass Thierry Henry as the all-time record overseas goalscorer in the Premier League (now on 177), and, if that wasn’t enough, he now has the most hat tricks ever, too (12).
What a player.

Nigel Pearson continued to get a tune out of Watford
Pearson left Leicester City in controversial fashion back in 2015, but the 56-year-old has worked wonders at Watford on his return to the Premier League.
The Hornets looked dead and buried when he was appointed, but, after a convincing 3-0 win at relegation rivals Bournemouth on Sunday, they’re out of the bottom three for the first time this season.
They’ve won four of their last five, too, so will only be looking up, rather than over their shoulders.
Danny Ings carried on his scoring streak
Although he missed a few chances during Southampton’s win against Leicester, he did net the winner to take his tally to 14 goals for the season and keeps been talked about for an England call-up ahead of Euro 2020.
Since leaving Liverpool for the Saints, he’s been the main man and has rediscovered his best form. He’s been injury-free, playing every week, and doing well for himself.
The 27-year-old is almost guaranteed an England call up when the next squad is announced.
Losers
Ole Gunnar Solskjær gave a strange post-match interview
Only Ole Gunnar Solskjær could come out of a game looking weak after a 4-0 win.
The match itself was fine – it’s what he said in his post-match interview that earns him a place on our losers list.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on MOTD: ‘When you play Man City in the Carabao Cup and they put their strongest team out, you know you've gone places because that means they respect us.’
A) not even true, no Aguero, Bravo in goal etc
B) uproar if David Moyes had said this as MUFC manager
— Daniel Taylor (@DTathletic) January 12, 2020
He suggested the fact that Manchester City put a strong side out against them in the Carabao Cup semi-final means they’re ‘going places’.
That not only shows the mentality and position the club is currently in, but it will also frustrate fans massively to hear their manager speaking this way.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang received a red card
Arsenal captain Aubameyang has come under a lot of criticism, lately, for his off-the-field antics, but it was his on-the-field actions that cost him this weekend.

When trying to win the ball back from Max Meyer in the 67th minute, the Gabon international almost snapped Meyer’s leg.
He now faces a three-game suspension – so, if Arsenal weren’t already struggling, they’ll be missing their captain and their top scorer for games including a London derby away at Chelsea.
Brendan Rodgers saw his Leicester side slip to a surprise defeat
It’s harsh to include Rodgers because of the fantastic job he’s done at Leicester, but, based on this weekend, he makes the list.
Leicester slapped Southampton 9-0 just 11 weeks ago, but revenge was sweet for the Saints on Saturday as they ran out of the King Power Stadium with a 2-1 win.
If December defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool didn’t suggest Leicester’s title bid is over, this result has secured it.
